It's been a week, and I finally feel like I can keep it together enough to make this post.
Last Monday, as I was heading to a hotel in Tampa for business, my wife called me. She had come home to find Iluq, our 7 year old Malamute mix that we have had for 6 years, lying dead on our front lawn. A friend of ours that works right next door had found him in the middle of the road and moved him up to our lawn so that we could bury him. he had escaped from our back yard, and someone had hit and killed him and left him there without calling us, or checking if he was injured or suffering.
I don't blame the person for hitting our dog - he was out of the yard, and didn't have a lick of car smarts. I do think it's likely they were driving too fast in our residential area, he was hit and killed instantly it's likely, as there was no blood. That fact at least makes me happy, that he probably didn't suffer. I do blame them for not checking his tag and giving either my wife or myself a call, or stopping to see if he was suffering. In my neighborhood, that could have easily been someone's kid.
Anyhow. My point isn't to vent about that person, I've done that plenty. My wife took Iluq to the Uintas Tuesday and bury him where he belonged. My life is alot less interesting now, and there's a void there, a missing wild energy that can't be replaced. It's difficult to even look at pictures of him, he's just been such a huge part of our lives for so long.
Iluq - it's hard to go through life without you. You were a brother and a best friend. You'll never be forgotten and you can never be replaced.
