Apple and Microsoft both suck.

What are you going to say ... Linux rules?

I am sure you aware that OS X is FreeBSD right? Just has that fancy "san francisco http://www.freebiegraphics.com/images/buddy-icons/gaypride01.gif " enhanced GUI, but who is complaining :lol8:

on a serious note, apple put this the other day ... listing 300+ new features in leopard. kind fun reading through these

http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/300.html#spaces

lots off little things those who are particular might like (i am one of these).

here's a list of "comprehensive updates" appleinsider has focused on.
AI list of new features (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/10/16/a_comprehensive_list_of_leopard_features_and_surpr ises.html)

another point from AI: "The 300 features don't touch on new graphical embellishments and eye candy, nor many of the significant yet invisiable new features of Leopard that will induce developers to build faster, smarter, prettier applications; it's 300 marketable features. That leaves Leopard a no-brainer upgrade. Leopard goes on sale in ten days."

elegant solution for ambiguity in stacks

so a new dock feature in leopard called "stacks" unfortunately has some serious ambiguity in it. a stack is essentially a folder. but instead of the icon showing in the dock, the icons in the contents of the folder are all stacked up, until you unleash them in a grid or a fan. the ambiguity comes about because if you have multiple stacks, then how can you tell the difference, WITHOUT cursoring over to see the name of the stack, OR remembering its location.

well ... for a clever and elegant solution which is simple and quick to implement, see this:

sweet sale pitches ...... Apple must put subliminal messages in their software so that their users will talk non stop about great it is :haha: How many posts on this forum are there about how great Windows 2k3 server is(insert snappy windows bashing comment here)?
I have read there are some compatibility issues with the leopard installer as well as some video problems :dropmouth: anyone on experiencing any problems with the new OS?

Stefan calls it apple bashing but I am really neutral on the subject. I just dont get all the apple fanboy posting about how great their macs are.

which sales pitch, my last post is essentially a negative one. someone else other than apple came up with something visually elegant (but the work around is not elegant).

anyway, i had zero problems installing leopard and my problems have been surprisingly minimal. though i do have some problems. leopard's X-windowing application X11 came with some significant problems. i have removed it and reinstalled the version from Tiger. others working on the development team have provided new open source builds for it, which i'll try soon. my other big problem comes from major slowdown with Mail 3.0 which i think might come from trying to access 3 imap accounts simultaneously, since it works fine and quick with any one of them.

outside of that, i don't have any serious problems worth mentioning (so far). much of the software i normally use seems to be functioning fairly normally, though i know others have problems spanning from picky to serious.

apple will release their first update 10.5.1 within a couple of weeks which should address many problems (i hear many in Mail 3.0, so i am hopful).
they read their feedback page and apple discussions page quite intensively to deal with this.

i figure posts like this are about posting interesting or useful information to those who use the operating system, but hey if fanboy-antics annoy people, then that would be right in line with the uutah way.

i don't really have anything against windows. have hardly ever used the operating system myself, so i don't really have much to complain about it. (mostly used mac or solaris.) when i did use it, it always did the few things that i wanted it to do. clearly complaints are also not just about software functionality but about business practices of MS.

as far as talking non-stop about apple, are you sure it's this forum you're reading? but yeah, some of us talk about it. after all, we are on computers :haha:

being critical of apple or it's problems isn't necessarily apple bashing, apple bashing is more about either what you're critical of or how you're saying it. and fyi i did actually find your bashing amusing ...
