This weekend was slated for my training in Zion on Saturday and I was to drive to Mt Carmel Jct. to camp out and Tanya and I were then going to explore Round Valley Draw. Well....it seems that Tanya had forgotten that she needed to tend to her wonderful daughter Nikki so the sunday hike fell through. I got called at 9:30 last night to do a search in Zion at at 8AM this morning and it seems that the party walked out just after the call and hence the training had been cancelled for today. Dang! I had to take advantage of time scheduled off, so decided to do an early morning hike of the Subway. Got to the lower TH before light, packed my pack and proceded to hitch-hike. Took a couple vehicles to pass by then a rancher stopped, put me in the back of his pickup and got me to the Wildcat TH and I was off hiking by 8am! Yee-haw! It was so peaceful. Got to Jabba the Hut and decided to let the early morning sun warm my bones before dropping into the gulch and Left Fork. It felt good and the sunrising was promise of a nice day! Oops! I heard and saw 2 groups of at least 10 each dropping into Russel, so I grabbed my pack and headed in wishing for solitude! Down to the first few stagnant pools and slowly the seeps and springs filled the canyon floor with the clearest, most pristine water I've experienced in the Left Fork. (Shame I left my camera at home by mistake). The wildflowers certainly weren't GIANT SUNFLOWERS, but they were the most vivid reds, yellows, oranges, lavenders and whites I've ever encountered! The Canyon tree frogs were sparse, but jumped as I approached. The pools of water were so clear that they seemed only 1' deep, but the reality of swimming was soon realized. After the last obstacle the clouds thickened and a strong upstream canyon wind made travel perfect. Unfortunately the shade and wind abated for the climb out, but then it was only noon and my ice water awaited at my car.

The only thing that would have made my day better would have been the presence of my best friend and hiking partner, Tanya.

Glad to hear you had a nice peaceful hike. Just might do the Subway again next year.

Nikki was dubbed..... "life size barbie doll" at the dance... (scarey for a 13 year old, but she is gorgeous!!!!!!)

Anyway... sorry I missed the hiking trip, but I do have to play mom at times. I just wish the dance she went to was not 80 miles away, but the kids in these small towns all get to know each other so well and are both in some college talent search program.

Hopefully next week we can go.

I hope I haven't to wait too long until coming back to the area.
When is the best time for the subway?

Greetz,

Let me know when you are in the area and I'll try to secure a permit. This is one of my favorite canyons and I'd love to show you through if possible.

So, I'm back from work.
Bo, that sounds great and I would enjoy that hike with you.
I'm always looking for someone to hike, 'cause my travel partners don't like the longer hikes I normally prefer.

And I hope I can spend a few days in the Zion area next year, 'cause there ist so much I haven't done yet.
So I let you know, when I'm planning the next trip. I think it'll be in spring or late summer. It depends on our vacation plan at work and for next year it isn't released yet. :cry1:
