COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - An elementary school has banned tag on its playground after some children complained they were harassed or chased against their will.
"It causes a lot of conflict on the playground," said Cindy Fesgen, assistant principal of the Discovery Canyon Campus school.
Running games are still allowed as long as students don't chase each other, she said.
Fesgen said two parents complained to her about the ban but most parents and children didn't object.
In 2005, two elementary schools in the nearby Falcon School District did away with tag and similar games in favor of alternatives with less physical contact. School officials said the move encouraged more students to play games and helped reduce playground squabbles.

Not too surprising, most of the educators out there, at this time, are liberal.
Wow, more than 3 words and a smilie from the reigning champ of text-bites!
Question: Why don't you ever prove your assertions?
Answer: you can't.
So-called "conservatives" are very fond of tossing the same tired crap out over and over w/o any proof. The liberal media. Liberal educators. Liberal this, liberal that. Well shoot, I guess Georgie must be a liberal now, seeing how he's trampling the law of the land into the muck under a "conservative" banner? A liberal AND a liar. Oh wait, they're the same thing!
:roflol: :roflol: :roflol:
Now that the hilarious humor part is done...
I thought conservatives were supposed to "conserve" stuff like...uh, the American Constitution, rule of law, etc. So...has the meaning of "conservative" changed? Has an Orwellian shift occurred? Seems so. Seems conservatism is now about grabbing power every which way ya can. Especially by squelching dissent with heavy-handed tactics.
Did you know?
http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_4436043
Did you also know?
(from White House manual detailing anti-demostrator tactics)
To counter any demonstrators who do get in, advance teams are told to create "rally squads" of volunteers with large hand-held signs, placards or banners with "favorable messages." Squads should be placed in strategic locations and "at least one squad should be 'roaming' throughout the perimeter of the event to look for potential problems," the manual says.
"These squads should be instructed always to look for demonstrators," it says. "The rally squad's task is to use their signs and banners as shields between the demonstrators and the main press platform. If the demonstrators are yelling, rally squads can begin and lead supportive chants to drown out the protestors (USA!, USA!, USA!). As a last resort, security should remove the demonstrators from the event site."
So...God bless the ACLU for obtaining this secret document.
If "liberal" means
"Not for Bush and his fascist 'rally squads' aks 'goon squads' aka 'brown shirts' then I'm one and proud of it.
however, I'm not for banning tag in public schools...that's not "liberal" - it's igmo. Check out this bestseller from the UK:

We used to play tackle football as kids and get in trouble for it. We still played anyways.
If kids don't want to play tag why don't they stop running and ignore the "taggers"? They should have a special padded room supplied with only soft round toys for thos kids that get offended at being tagged play in.
I have found that the public school system is run more by political correctness than common sense.

A word of warning to parents of candyass kids who don't want to play tag, dodge ball or keep score at youth sporting events.........
When your child becomes an adult and enters the real world my kids will grind them into the ground and stomp on the worthless little turds. My kids have been taught that winning is important. Even more significant my kids have been taught how to win and how to stand up for themselves on the playground without mommy running interference.
The candyass kids are doomed in later life.

Straight up truth. And to add to that -- there are many more parentals out there that do the same thing. This is what your kids are up against. Once you get outta high school it's a dogfight to succeed in this life, and there are no holds barred and no playground rules!!

We did things growing up like drinking from a back yard hose (what was bottled water ?) rode in the back of pick up trucks, played in construction sites and got hurt in people's backyards. No one sued their neighbor if your child was hurt on their premises - we were just taken to the doctor, stitched/patched up and sent on our way. I remember pushing my sister on a school swing and she let go (she was way too high to do that......not MY fault at all though) :ne_nau: and landed on her arm and broke it. Nowadays, the law suit would be immediate, the swing she fell from would be removed and recess as we once knew it would be eliminated forever. :haha:

We've come a long way in certain areas and it's a big help to those who may not have been given a chance in life. But we've also become a nation of "politically correct" to the point of obsession. When did the voice of a few begin to speak for the majority?

In case you haven't been watching for the past 20 or 30 years, the feminists (not women like Tanya and Savanna) have taken charge. One outcome is that girls are pushed to be more masculine and boys are pushed to be more feminine. I see examples all the time.
Men should be MEN!!!!!! ..... but then I was at the Olympic level in Judo until 1992... so I do push men... but NEVER to be more feminine, just to be WAY WAY tougher than me!!!!

Au contraire. Folks should get a bit more serious about the things they *truly* care about. Are we all gonna keep whining forever about lawyers, politicians, insurance, health care, the environment, prayer in school, education system, abortion, etc. without doing anything about it?
Anyhow, "lightening up" probably isn't an effective strategy for shaking things up.
I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said "Stop Bitching, Start a Revolution".
It's been a good 40 years since the last one. It might be high time for another.

This thread reminds me of an email sent to me awhile back. I wish I'd kept it, but basically it was an email that targeted people mainly over 40 I would say. Shame on sisters suing sisters!

I meant (in regards to the swing/suing) that most parents today would be suing the school because of the fall.
In regards to "lightening up" ......well, I just feel that people take life, themselves and other people way too seriously at times. I think we need to take a deep breath, not be so full of ourselves (we're only human - right?) and instead of making so much noise about what's wrong and needing to do something to fix things, etc., actually get out there and (like Nike says) just do it.

Ah man, I hate peer pressure, but since Shane wants to hear it, it went down something like this....
We are the last rap station in Pine Creek. We have my 200 foot rope, and another 60. Only problem, i don't have my 200 marked in the middle. So Shane is setting up the last rap, and wondering if there is enough rope. I say yeah, but we can go down on a block single strand and set the length to be sure. Well, Shane isn't a big fan of rappelling, especially single strand. But he sets the block up, tosses the rope, and starts the cautious slide over the edge.
As the last inch of his ass slides off into space, he frantically yells up to me. "Dan, help me! Grab my backpack!!!"
I, wondering what in the hell could warrant this girly screaming, clip into the anchor and look over to see Shane in near tears about a foot down the rope.
"Dan, grab my backpack, pull me up. Something ain't right." he stutters.
I lean over and use my "ain't-never-played-tag-in-my-life" strength to pull his alpha-male self back up on the ledge, and ask him what in the hell is going on. He's not sure, except for the fact that he knew something was wrong. I double check his rig, harness, etc... Everything looks good, except the unlocked biner used on the block. I locked her down, pulled out a few feet of slack, gave him a nice kick in the back and sent him flying down the rappel and yelled "See you at the bottom, pussy!"
I'm trying to be as modest about the event as possible, but it ain't easy being a hero. In fact, I didn't want to tell the story, but since Shane insisted, that's how it happened. No lie.

I stand corrected. I actually never rapped on the biner block either. I went down double strand. And I never really double checked his rig at all. I just told him to quit being a girl. You set the rap, you go first. The rules are simple. Then I kicked him in the back, sending him down the rap.

Nope. Tag by itself isn't an issue, methinks.
The bullying might be.
Some of these kids don't take a shine to it, it seems. See it in the headlines all the time:
Gunman may have taken revenge for bullying
STEPHEN MCGINTY
THE gunman behind the Virginia Tech massacre killed two pupils who had attended his high school - where he was bullied, mocked over his shyness and told to "go back to China".
Yeah, these kids are dealing with it all right.
What's kind of frightening to me, is, have you been in a gun store recently? Go hang out in "get some" for awhile for instance. Its amazing how many kids go in there and drool over the high end assault stuff. What do you think their motive is?
Watch'd a "kid" buy a Glock the other day. Barely 21. Just ponied up the cash and woulda bought a couple had he the space on his credit card.
Sure, there's parenting. Some parents seem to like to instill that bullying is ok, a sign of some macho superiority. Maybe even make derisive and derogotory statements about the state of kids today.
So, what is the proper response that a parent teaches their kid in response to a bully?
I dunno. When I was a kid, we settled our issues mano a mano in the playground, ala fisticuffs, or, usually, a "raslin'" match. Roll around in the dirt a bit. Maybe someone squirts a few tears. Then, it was usually make up and move on. Now a days, kids seem to be more viciously violent. More prone to weapon use. It was unheard of to take a gun or knife to school when I was a kid. Now, they have metal detectors. Crazy.
When you're weaker, physically, and get picked on, and your peer group thinks its funny, just what is the response? Be tough to be the weakling. And, there doesn't seem to be many standing up for them, its seems.
I dunno. Revenge is a strong motivator for being picked on.
No wonder some folks hate high school, or jr high.
Honor and respect: conservative values? Maybe less so than picking on folks who try to do something about bullies.
I didn't get picked on much in school. Some, though. Was usually bigger and stronger than most of the school bullies. Don't recall being a bully myself, at least, I don't remember any time where I was, except maybe the standard freshman hazing stuff, which was pretty mild, really, and not mean spirited. Ok, I remember some "melvins" or "georging" being done to others. But they deserved it (ha!). And I always felt like we were friends later on. Was kind of a weird peer group as I hung out with the nerds and jocks, both, as I knew the nerds from class and the jocks from sports. I do remember the bullies and the bullied though. Damn, some kids were mean. And some took it and took it. And, there was nothiing better than when a bully pushed someone too far, and, picked on the wrong kid.
Crazy stuff to think about...interesting social commentary...
-Brian in SLC
If bullying was the problem shouldn't they deal with that directly instead. Just because tag stopped doesn't mean the kids will stop bullying. They need to punish the kids for bullying not just for bullying during certain situations.

Ditto that. But, I also knew how he felt about dealing with bullies, too. And, there was no way we were going to have that conversation.
You can hunt in Montana at 12. Ruger 30-06 for my 12th birthday, of course. Shot my first 12 guage at 5 years old, and dad's '06 at 5, which bummed mom out a tad, since I had "scope kiss" eye in my kindergarten pic's. Still have the scar. Too funny.

Sure, if thats all.
I remember with clarity, in 5th grade, that "tag" was banned for recess at my school. It had gotton WAY too out a hand. Came back in time, but, got so rough that the school had to do something about it. Was a bit bummed for awhile and had to go back to burnin' ants with my magnifying glass...
Of course, my fourth grade teacher was the wife of our senator at the time, and, he was a Democrat...so...no wonder...ha ha.
