Alex will laugh at this, 'cause I just told him I could do it. ----but I can't.
I've got some .mov video files I need to convert to either AVI, WMV, or MPG. I just tried some free converters, and they're crap. They aren't converting.
Anybody got any free links? Here's what I tried so far.

Quicktime Pro, baby. $30.00. With all the video stuff you do for this site, why not ask acca for some hep? Heck, take up a donation - if everyone sent in a quarter, you'd have more than enough.

well if you were a mac user you could use ffmpegX which is based on a bunch of opensource unix code, but ...

Dan I just tried that converter it worked the best I have seen so far, thanks for the suggestion!

Oh duh... that's what I used in the past, the Quicktime pro. I am comparing the conversion between the two programs right now to see if one is better....

It looks like my problem is a little deeper than that. I tried reinstalling Quicktime, and this is the error I get.
So, those converters may all work after all. What's my problem?
If you run it with no compression via Quicktime, it looks exactly the same as Streamclip. So Justin, just use the Streamclip, it's free and easy to use.
... and have those videos ready in an hour :lol8: and the TR as well!

You might need to install a quicktime alternative. The MPEG StreamClip has links for how to do that stuff. It gives you the QTPro capabilities, but it be free o' charge.

I can get this one to work some of the time. But some AVI's won't open.
Are there any other free converters out there?

Not totally user-friendly (most mac users will pull their stylish hair out), but this will convert almost anything to almost anything else. It's just not really user-friendly. Did I mention that yet?

After I posted yesterday I found this one. Seem to work OK but I was having problems making it work all the time. Also the first couple MPG-4 files I made were not compressed, actually they were slightly larger. I don
