Hey everybody,

A) Does anyone know how hard it would be to get a walk-in permit to hike the Zion Narrows on a Saturday in September? I would be willing to do it as a day hike or as an overnighter (Friday night / Saturday). Any input on which is better? (It's probably just a matter of personal preference) I want to do it in September - any weekend will do. I bet Saturday is the busiest day of the week, but it's about the only day of the week I can do it.

B) How hard would it be to hitchhike instead of pay for a shuttle service? Do you think that there are people out there that would pick up a couple of stinky, wet, dirty hippy-hiker kids? If not, how much is the shuttle?

Day trips through the Narrows are pretty easy to get, particularly if you go a day ahead of time.

Narrows Campsite #3 still has reservations open for Sept 8. Go here to snag them.

It's nearly impossable to hitch a free narrows shuttle. More info here:

PS: I noticed you are doing the hike as a pair. Reserve all 4 camp #3 permits and then advertise here for 2 additional partners to split the trip and provide half the shuttle. That usually works for me and should solve your shuttle problems.
