I took it from the parking lot at my office, which just a little bit southeast of 2100 South Redwood Road. Here's another shot from the same spot:

Yes it was except I had just about smashed into two moose on the road just prior to this spot so my heart rate was up and I could only stay for about 30 seconds due to the fact I was due in Vernal at 8:30 a.m. for a hearing. Someone who was there, I am sure, had a peaceful morning. Besides the moose (plural) I saw A LOT of deer on the side of the road. A bit of a white knuckle drive for me but nonetheless, a beautiful morning.

Vigenetting in the sky. Whaddya do?
:ne_nau:

well, here's one thing -

use the "magic wand" tool select the sky.

once done enlarge to 200% to fine tune and make sure the is no bleed or missed spots.

if there is, go into "quick mask" and then choose "eraser" tool to eliminate the mask where it has bled or not selected.

when done exit "quick mask" and choose "eyedropper" tool. take a sample of the sky where it is darkest and most saturated. this will appear as the foreground color in the tool tray.

then select the "gradient" tool. use the "linear gradient" option. position the crosshair at the top of the frame and drag it to a point somewhere below the selected area. this will give a color gradient of the selected color from its maximum tone as selected to white ( or whatever other color is set as the "background color" on the tool tray ). the direction of the line as you drag the gradient tool will determine the direction of the gradient.

at anhy time the selected area can be "deselected" by choosing the "magic wand" tool and clickingw/in the selected area, or by going to "select", then "deselect" in the tool bar up top.

No sir. Pretty much straight out of the camera. It is two images stitched together to make increase FOV, same exposure on both though.

I should probably go back and crop it more like a panorama to get rid of the parking lot at the bottom and the wispy clouds at the top.

Here is an interesting shot... has had lots of photoshop work to make it viewable... The original was terrible. (one of the first shots I took with my SLR) It shows the fall colors give way to the snow at Snowbasin, with a nice mist/fog rolling in. Let me know what you think.

I also love CarpeyBiggs salt flats - that is an amazing shot! Reminds me of the salt flats in Death Valley.

And CNP's reflection of the mountains is pretty dang cool too! And Scott's misty "peaceful for someone" morning ~ that is very serene looking! Geez...these photos are all super! Very nice indeed.
IMHO when it comes to having to photoshop a photo you must know the limitations of your camera and what you will have to correct BEFORE you take the picture. We all dont have the luxury of the finest equipment or the time and funds to lay in wait for hours for the perfect shot to come to us. I know for myself everyday life and other obligations superseed my picture taking time.
So with all that said, once again job well done. The deep tonal colors of the clouds conveys the feeling of anger contrasted with the untouched vibrant serne fall colors below
The only constructive criticism I might give is to crop out the fence and tree in the bottom left.

On second look the fence would work with out the tree....

i have been looking for the negative of this photo, for some time now, to digitize, but seem to have misplaced it. so for the time being i decided to do a lowquality scan of the grainy photo.

folks along the wasatch front have different views of the wasatch that they have become accustomed to over time. the view of the central wasatch from the north is one of my very favorite. from the city of salt, it is a stunning view, though the twin peaks often gets obscured along the east bench, especially when hiking along the foothills. higher points give better vantage on the twin peaks. one spot i have enjoyed the view countless times is along the ridge of little black mountain, which forms the southern wall of city creek canyon, viewing ridgeline after ridgeline towards the peaks of little cottonwood canyon. it's also very easy to pick out the fun hiking/scrambling route up the north face of olympus

the following photo i took one evening around '92-'93 on a hike with my sister. it was kinda stormy over the mountains and sunny over the great lake of salt. there was even a massive rainbow, extending from the top of the narrow ridge of little black mountain up and over the canyon below, and touching down on another ridge to the south. i have never been so seemingly close to a rainbow before.

nice one summit ... the clouds look amazing

so as i mentioned above i my favorite view of the wasatch is from the northern part of salt lake looking south. years ago when i moved from salt lake for college, in the first few months i felt like the buildings around me looked so much bigger, yet i knew they weren't. at first i thought it was just the perspective of living in a "new" place, but then it quickly dawned on me that it was likely because the buildings weren't dwarfed by enormous mountains with peaks pushing the alpine right adjacent to the city, a realization that has stuck with me ever since and one i enjoy tremendously.

so ... two photos of one of my favorite views on the wasatch during winter and spring (wish i actually owned a nice camera ... someday):
