this thread looks different

You're right! My post has been censored (i.e. deleted). I'm guessing by Shane "The Mole" Burrows, Mr. Free Speech himself.

Is there an irony smiley somewhere? :-/

WTF!!!

I'd like to know who deleted the ORV/Escalante thread and why?

I don't think deleting threads is a hot idea.... kinda like sticking your head in the sand. Perhaps locking the thread is a much more appropriate measure?

Here is the orgianl thread.... and someone better have a damn good reason for deleting it to begin with.....

http://www.climb-utah.com/temp/OHV%20Thread.htm

If Acca or Sombeech can insert this back into a normal thread that's even better....

Shane's not a moderator of the canyoneering forum is he? Wouldn't be him deleting it... :ne_nau:

He may not be pushing the button himself, but it's surely because of him and/or his relationships on this forum. I do think an explanation is in order from Tanya, RockGremlin, or Stefan.

P.S. Shane, 'Beech and Scott are moderators of the whole group.

Heck if I know!!!!!! :ne_nau: All I know is I did not do it. :bootyshake:

Or did you want an explanation of my relationship with Ice? So far... there is not one. It's down right boring. I think he is all talk . :lol8:

Barkin' up the wrong tree.... I'm all for free speech.

FWIW: I'm an overall modorator.... but... the only time I use my modorator powers is to do house cleaning (move threads to the proper topic) and delete spam. Other then that I could really care less...

Although I do wish Hank would start his own thread and stop trying to hijack a useful topic. Might be a good idea to split this off into "My personal attack on Shane" or some such.

This is not a pissing contest and your attempts to characterize it as such w/o digesting the whole picture are unwelcome. Please go back to your spider hole.

I for one am glad to see more areas that are pro ATV. I enjoy many outdoor pursuits and to be honest I am sick and damn tired of the elitist mindset of those that think their particular endeavor is the only one of any merit. If it were up to many people with this elitist mentality we would have all canyons closed to canyoneering due to recent accidents. Don't be so quick to deny others their freedoms, because you'll eventually lose yours. Utah is a big state with plenty of room for everyone to play and have a good time. If nothing else take an ATV rider canyoneering with you and maybe you'll build a bigger base of pro canyoneering supporters that will come in handy when areas begin to be closed.

ATV'rs are far superior to everybody else. Period. If you ride a dirt bike you're automatically 10 times smarter than the canyoneer who doesn't. Besides I've found that it's far easier to carry my Hilti on my Yamaha than in my pack.

Here's what I suggest, we'll give all the elitist, non-ATV canyoneers the real good canyons like, Keyhole, Pine, Misery, and Mystery. Then those of us who have something that runs on gas mixed with oil will get the rest of the canyons. We deserve them. :bootyshake:

Seriously though, can't we share? It's all the same thing, fun. Some like it with horsepower and some don't.

I think ATV'ers are far more like those personal watercraft folks who flit about, make a lot of noise, and spoil a fine day of fishing.

As for sharing . . . I'm willing to share Tonopah Test Range or UTTR. Ride on, Josephine.

The numbers prove that less than 0.2% of OHV users engage in irresponsible recreation behavior.

Help us stamp out the last 0.2% by getting involved and donating to groups like USA-ALL

Hi Scoutabout - thanks for your thoughts. I have not read your comments yet, but soon. I don't believe orgs like USA-ALL or SUWA are what is needed to solve this problem. They only serve to perpetuate an atmosphere of war. What is needed is direct, constructive communication between user groups with the ultimate goal of uniting all conscientious users and marginalizing the madmen.

We all want (more or less) the same thing: to enjoy the beautiful (but fragile) utah wilderness in our own varied ways and to preserve it as much as possible for our own continued enjoyment and that of future generations. I believe this is not possible w/o structured communication and cooperation between the various user groups. The borderline hate speech that comes out of SUWA, USA-ALL, etc. is not productive. I aim to (somehow) find a "third way" out of this us vs. them / me vs. you trap.

That said, I *do* believe SUWA and USA-ALL are well-intentioned orgs but who have simply learned to ignore the truth and importance of the following adage:

"The road to Hell is paved with good intentions"

More to come...and thanks again.
