Hi,

Just got back from Zion yesterday. FWIW:

Yankee Doodle--great little canyon--must be some more stuff along that road down towards St. George...Never been in that area before--really beautiful, esp. up towards Oak Grove.

Echo--nice and cool, not smelly, some wading, early start.

Spry--early start, a few small pools to wade (thigh deep)/avoid on rappel. One manky, stinky, nasty pool near the end.

Das Boot--I wore 3/2 shorty, got cold but not too bad, spots to warm up in the sun, some wading, two short swims. Temps outside were 108+, inside--cool, cool, cool. Hike out from subway to trailhead required full soak in the creek :cool2:

Lots of lightening today, but no rain yet. Hopefully there will be some relief by rain rather than fires. Thanks for sharing. Have any photos?

Here is subway--none of Das Boot as we were moving fast to avoid the peak heat at the exit trail.

Oh man! I totally missed out!!!!
I had no idea there would be so much water in there, given the drought.
After dropping you guys off, as I was driving away....I almost cried!
Well, maybe not cried exactly, but I was sad....I can't beleive I made it home in 51/2 hours though!

Paradise ain't SO far away from here! :D

I STILL can't wait to do Subway (it's been on my list forever) along with Kolob.

Thanks for the pictures.
Looks like you guys had a blast!

Randi--

Thanks so much for the lift, Steve and I appreciated it very much. You were definately missed. I was impressed when we did Echo...you went through with that stressed tendon --it looked like it hurt. I want to schedule an Imlay trip and redo Das Boot in August--I am hoping the monsoons-if and when the come--will clean out the potholes and add another layer of challenges. I was also thinking of Escalante and doing West Baker and Choprock later that week--thoughts?

Twas no problem at all Adrian! Plus, the drive was BEEEEutiful! I missed you guys too, and from the story that the pictures tell, I definitely missed out! Echo was fun! Steve got some great pics in there! I kinda liked the way mine turned out at first too ~ until I saw Steves! :ne_nau: You'll see what I mean when I send them to you! His pics have waaaay more detail!

Anyhow, my August is open (except the first weekend), but I've also posted a mssg. to Jason about his Long Canyon trip in Aug. We were supposed to do that one in Dec. but we got lost (and did Lost canyon instead)

Hmmmm...a thought: maybe I could hook up in Escalante with you for Baker and then head out to meet Jason if the timing jives. I just did Chop Rock not too long ago and think I'd rather do some new stuff before doing that one again.

Are you still thinking of a Sept. Zion trip over Labor day?!? I think that sounds good ~ I just haven't had time to respond yet.

Ummm...I don't have e-mail at work anymore.....#@*7%!
: (~ But I can log onto this site and a few others!

You'll probably see me here often as I am so very bored at work ..... sometimes! : /

Can't wait to hang out with you guys again!

The water is crystal clear, indeed (see the pictures).
We were there on Saturday. Just got back to Bay Area. I felt like I'm missing the paradise the moment we left Springdale.
I'm wondering if it is possible to go there when the water level is higher and the water is still as clear as it is now? I was told that in fall there is more water but it is muddy.
On the other hand, I would be thankful for just going there again. I want to see how the canyon changes in different conditions.

I've done Subway several times when the water is muddy or cloudy.... after a storm, spring runoff, yada, yada.... but crystal clear is the most picturesque. The water lever is usually lower in the fall, and from my experiance it is usually clearer when low.

Is there some picture of Subway's gallery with more water level to see how it could be the other way around? I'm also wondering if thePine Creek can have a flowing water? Is it possible to do the Pine Creek when the water is flowing there?

Thanks.

P.S. Here is how Pine Creek looked last Friday.

I,ve done Pine with light flow, maybe 5cfs. It was a blast, we followed on the tail of a summer flash flood. The water was also bathtub warm after flowing over the hot summer sandstone. When flowing there is probably about 1/4 mile of total swimming required.

When Subway has more water it really doesn't look much different.

Pinecreek flowing is the best way to do Pine Creek IMHO. I posted some pics last fall when I did it that way. And yes, the water was bath tub warm. Here are a few photos from last year of a flowing pine creek. http://uutah.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4002
