I'm interested in taking a certification class, and am wondering where you guys would recommend. I'm know that some of you must have that certification at a minimum and looking at some good advice as to where you believe provides the most value.

I took it through REI, I don't think I would recommend it. The class was very rushed and not as organized as I expected.

I have not taken the wilderness first aid class, but I did just finish up my EMT certification through Weber State University. I would highly recommend it, it was great. I have applied with Davis SAR and I am trying to get on an ambulance here before too long. With the EMT you learn everything that you need to know in any emergency situation and how to deal with it. :2thumbs:

My husband took the Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) course through the Canyonland Field Institute in Moab. He really liked it. It was 40 hours.

I have seen the classes at Weber, and have just shot an email asking if any are planned.

Some friends of mine have been talking about taking this class, so maybe we'll see you there.

Here is the e-mail I got from WSU

Currently we are not planning on teaching a WFA course for the summer. I would
expect that we will offer one over winter break. If you need one before then
please contact the American Red Cross.
