Don't know who originally came up with the name Tukuhnikivista Arch, but that's how Chris Moore spells it in one his guide books and that's how F.A. Barnes spells it in two of his books. Barnes writes that " . . . it was given its odd name because Mount Tukuhnikivatz, in the distant La Sal Mountains, is easy to frame through the arch's opening." He also points out that one end of the span resembles a horse's head.
