This TR is kinda long, but it is a TR for six canyons.

On Sunday I drove to Zion after work, rolled into a FULL Mosquito Flats around midnight. I've only been to Zion on the shoulder seasons before and it is a different place during tourist seasons, it's a zoo, I couldn't believe how many people there were.

Monday: Spry

I picked up my permit around eight and tried for a little more than 35 seconds to find a partner, I must have looked and smelled like I slept in my car or something because no one wanted anything to do with me. I was forced to carry all the ropes myself. I started heading up the approach around 9, I forgot how much fun it is to walk in sand. The slick rock saddle was easy to find and all the cairns on it made it even easier. After some slick rock hiking I was greeted with the canyon and a fantastic view of the West Temple (?). I dropped into the canyon and headed down. After some shrub raslin' I came to the first rap. In the rest of the canyon I did between 7-11 raps. There was one rap where I needed to lean over a gap to clip the anchor, and being the manly man I am, I decided to find a stick and clip it that way. The last 4 or so raps were my favorite part of the canyon; it was in a fun slot with a bit of wading and raps that were close together. Near the end I caught up to a group and ate lunch while they went ahead. The hike out was hot, but the beer in my car was cold.

Tuesday: Pine Creek and Keyhole

I had plans to meet with a partner, Amber, at one to do Pine Creek. So in the morning I decided to play tourist. I forgot how funny the folks on the shuttle buses are. I decided to go on a booty gear hunt and was amazed when I came away with nothing, usually I find at least as few biners and a cam or something. Anyways, Pine Creek was pretty dry; there was a wade or three and one cold 20 foot swim. There were two real nice raps. It was a great canyon, although short. It also has the easiest navigation I

I had to pack them in, these were my last free days until August-ish.

Sooooo....

What do you think of Behunin?

Other than my camera breaking, Behunin was a good time and worth doing. I wasn't sure what to expect because I'd heard mixed things about the quality. I'd rank it a little above Spry, a longer approach but better raps. There was no real slot, but it is in Zion so the scenery is always amazing. On the Brejcha scale (0 stars would be a ditch, and five stars would be the worlds greatest canyon) it would get 3.215 out of 5 stars. The approach had some great views, the raps were real fun, seems like those first four would be a good intro to multistage raps. From the "dead log into a pool rap" until the end was a fun stretch of canyon. It wasn't as hot as i thought it would be, we got on the shuttle around 8, so that probably helped. If there weren't so many other canyons I want to go down, I'd do it again.

It's a great canyon in the spring too when its too cold to do some of the others. I liked it too, but not because the rappels. Just because it's a cool, easy to navigate canyon that is great to do in the spring.

One the Ice scale of 0 to 10 stars.... with 3 being a cold beer and 10 being a naked Jessica Alba holding a margatrita and a note from my wife saying have a good time..... Behunin gets 1 star.

Are there any canyons that get a 10 on the ice scale?

Are there any canyons that get a 10 on the ice scale?

The answer to that question is very complicated and requires pie charts, graphs, two super computers and a think tank of the finest minds in the country.... but bottom line... NO!

Well, You just proved you are not a terrorist. Jessica Alba is only one person and she is not a virgin.

As to Behunin, I really like it. Of course, I like the big raps. Early spring and fall are the best due to the temps. Well, I'm off to do Heaps again this week!!!!!!! :rockit:

I'm having a little trouble understanding the fine points of the Ice system of 0-10 stars, I am assuming the 10 star rating is a theoretical grade, and as in the brejcha scale, can never be attained. However, the confusion lies in the Cold Beer = 3 and Behunin =1. Now, cold beer can be carried down Behunin; would Behunin then be considered a 2? If a neked Jessica Alba carried your beer for you, what would Behunin be rated as? I guess I'm confused if your attributes can influence the final rating of the canyon, and if the attributes are weighted or not. :ne_nau:

To clarify, then confuse, let us re-evaluate the Brejcha system for a moment as attributes (like neked women and beer) had not been considered.

For the 0-5 star Brejcha system, S= CR+ (E[ai+bi]) where S is the star rating, CR is the original rating of the canyon, a is the attribute and b is the importance of the attribute and can be positive or negative, E is the summnation of all attributes, but I dunno where that key is on my computer.

so... Behuhnin was given 3.215 stars, neked women is attribute 1 and worth +2 , cold beer is attribute 2 and worth +.75, both are very important and importance is rated from -.5 to .5.
So...S= 3.125+ [(2*.5)+(.75*.4)

Therefore Behunin with neked women to carry my cold beer :naughty: would be rated as 4.515 stars on the Brejcha scale. I don't know where I'm going with this so I'm just going to stop now. . .

Hmmm, I remember you telling me that Christy Canyon deserved a 10.

I never knew what you were talking about until I looked it up. :nono:
