My family visited Tijuana in 1979. I have a photo of my wife and kids on what looks like the same wagon and the donkey's ancestor.

Could be the same tired old donkey painted with zebra strips.

I don't think you would recognize the city of Tiajuana today. The main street has been rebuilt and repaved. Most of the street hustlers and such have been pushed out by the government. According to our guide all vendors are required to speak English as part of the employment.

We saw much of the same 'junk' that you probably found back in 1979. We noticed how most of the main streets were very clean. In fact my wife and I agree that it looked cleaner than the Vegas strip.

That is amazing. The memory of Tijuana's filth colored our impression of Mexico for a long time. Of course, places like Juarez cemented the negative impression. It was years before we ventured into some of the "nicer" border towns. Glad to hear Tijuana has been cleaned up.
