I am looking to taking 5 scouts 14 yr olds, to summit timp in an over nighter.

I was thinking the best plan would be to hike to the lake just below the summit (mirror lake?) friday night, then summit in the morning.

My question is, when are the temps and the snow melt ok to do this?

thanks!

Check here. http://www.tert.org/ They will post updates on the trails leading to the summit.

Emerald Lake, it can get cold up there at night even in the middle of summer. Last time we camped up there was August 26, 2006 the temps were in the high 30's at night.

It really depends on the snow pack... This year was pretty weak for Provo Canyon so it should be good soon.
http://www.tert.org/trail_head.html looks like they will be out next weekend so they should post an update on the main page.
