Thanks Nef! There can be a lot of meaning behind belly dance, but it varies greatly from dancer to dancer. Of course, everything is open to interpretation as well, like any other art form. I find that in a lot of my dancing, I will often try to convey an emotion rather than a story or symbol. I have seen some great folkloric styles of belly dance that do just that, though!

I was interesting in belly dance the first time I saw it! I was always intrigued by the music and costumes, but I finally decided that it was something I needed to do! That was about 5 years ago.

I didn't know she was interested in it, otherwise I'm sure I could have talked up a storm with her about it! Perhaps next time! :)
