i don't know exactly which day it is so i thought i would celebrate it today.

my mountain bike is a good friend, a compadre who's been with me through thick and thin,
carrying me to school & work come winter, rain or shine, up canyon roads, and on the occasional trail ... an '87 Gary Fisher HooKooEKoo. :2thumbs:

Despite many bike shop folk telling me, "just buy a new bike," there's no bike i'd rather ride
everyday in the urban jungle. i know how she moves, how she responds ... a pleasure to ride.

to celebrate #20, i replaced her pedals, today, with a never-been-used set of '91 Shimano Deore pedals ... and they spin like budda

and i hope for 20 more!

That's no excuse! ;)

Fern canyon was absolutely amazing. Beautiful place. Well...except there was this forest ranger chick who kept following us around. She was kinda creepy.

awright ... i'll see what i can do. but it may be a little bit.

the stalker ranger eh? on time i was taking some friends through there we just started up from the mouth when all of a sudden six mountain bikers started tearing through there ... all the small stones tossing about, shattering the peaceful calm of the place. i think it's the first time i have confronted someone saying, they weren't allowed to be in there. f

did you guys get a chance to head down damnation creek?

alright, heather here ya go. borrowed a camera today :2thumbs:

she's been though a lot, each scar has a story ...

i had to color correct though for the bike frame, as it came out slightly too cyan in the digifoto. i have seen this happen with two others digital photos as well. i don't think i have it quite right. tricky paint. ah whell

one of my FAVORITE aspects of the bike ... shimano THUMB SHIFTERS!!! :ahh:

these have both an indexed mode and friction mode. though they were indexed for 6-speed gears, the friction mode can be easily used up to 9-speed. (i have a 7-speed cassette).

very cool ... i am really curious to see what condition his is in. i imagine it might be pretty good if he's had it in there for a while. mine has been through a lot and i've ridden it everyday and had it in the corrosive air of the pacific coast.

i would love to have a mint condition of this bike. i am also wondering what original parts he has on it. i have tried to change as little as possible, but alas, i have changed the rims, chain rings, cassette, pedals, and seat (which was unfortunately damaged).

for example, does he still have the biopace chain rings on them? i know the biopace bothered a number of people, but i really enjoyed it.

looking forward to seeing 'em acca.

just decided to move this post from the general section to the mountain biking section where it belongs. replaced the back wheel yesterday after a section of the rim blew out ... oh boy ... kicked up a notch!

anyone else here have this bike at one time or another?

no ... as i said the seat is not original. unfortunately that got damaged and i needed to replace it. it was a great seat though. all black with a double yellow ^^ mountain peak on the side. that i am bummed about.

i added the reflectors to it. everything else (not mentioned before) is original (save obviously the bottom bracket.)
