Sure, you can name a child, but can you name a band? Does anybody have any good band names they've been kicking around lately and what's the story behind it? Here are a couple of mine.

Buck Fifty NiCMO

We went to the Movies 10 in Sugar House to see Casino Royale. When I tried to pay the girl who had paid for the tickets said, "You can just pay me with a NiCMO (Non-committal makeout)."

Since the tickets were only $1.50 I asked, "Just how much NiCMO can you get for a buck fifty?"

That's where "Buck Fifty NiCMO" came from.

Molly Arsenic

I was at work today and the receptionist announced a meeting over the intercom. "The moly (molybdenum) arsenic project meeting will start in five minutes in conference room 274." It came to me like a bolt of lightning. "Molly Arsenic" would be a sweet name for an angry girl band of the indie rock persuasion.

Those are two of mine. What are yours? I'm not starting a band any time soon so I won't steal them.

Buck Fifty NiCMOI like acronyms--like TSOL (True Sounds of Liberty) and DK's (Dead Kennedy's)--especially for punk or industrial bands. PTO (Power Take Off) would be an excellent choice for a hardcore industrial band.

Here's some cover art for ya'. Awesome!

By the way, I like Buck Fifty NiCMO and especially Molly Arsenic except that it sounds too much like Molly Hatchet.

KMFDM (does it really stand for Kill MFin' Depeche Mode?)
NIN
The KLF

I like PTO, but it sounds a bit too much like BTO (to us old Canadians, anyway).

I saw BTO in concert a few times in the early 90s. They were...let us say...washed up.

Why is it that I can always come up with good band names, except right now?

Where does the "i" come from? There is no "i" in "non"

It's just so it rolls off the tongue easier (hehe, rolls off the tongue). The acronym is NCMO, but "Nic-mo" is easier to say.

I've never had the opportunity to name a band, but I did win first prize for naming a local soccer team in New Orleans a few years back. A rowdy bunch with both male and female members. The name:

Dix & Chix

:ne_nau: Hey - it won 1st prize. Ok.....so the first prize wasn't that great either. :haha:

My former band (the guys moved away) was named Slave Start. It came from a term in the tank community. When you jump start a tank, it's called a slave start. Just sounded cool. Look us up on MySpace.

We kicked around the idea of having the band name FREE BEER.

Imagine that up on the marquee of a bar :2thumbs:
