A buddy and I did Larry Canyon on a very nice day Saturday. The approach is really quick to the head of the canyon. We checked out the webbing/anchor and everything looked ok. The canyon narrow's up quickly, scenic and get's deep. Went around the big boulder and had fun in the narrow's. Lot's of downclimbing and two chest wadder's on me (5' 7"). There is a pothole to get out of that had the chest deep water. I did make a mistake in one spot and not take my pack off and got stuck for a little while till I could manage to un-weigh my self and remove my pack. Lots of mud in a few sections. A awkward rappel from below a chockstone, which can be downclimbed most if not all the way if you got some really long legs, but a hand line should get you down all the way. I would suggest bringing a headlamp, there is a really dark section that I could not make out what was ahead, one short downclimb, then another longer one get's you in. After the dark section the famous slanted hallway comes in, it's not bad at all, just a little tried-some/awkward to manuveur, then out into the daylight. We did the two optional drops, and replaced the webbing on the first one.
The hike to the Crack Exit was very scenic and not that long, I think it took us about an hour to get to it. I got a top belay in a few spots, especially near the very top. Now comes the hike/climb out to the rim, it is tired-some when you are not in top shape. Lots and lots of slickrock climbing, we basically stayed to the left of the big butte/rock whatever. It was nice to see the road, then it is a little hike to the Alcatrazz drop, then further to the trailhead. All in all a very nice day/canyon. If I was to do it again, I would definitely like to have a shuttle right at the rim or at least at Alcatrazz. I will post a link to some pics later on this week or so. I took about 25, my friend took a bunch as well.
