We just returned from a wet and wild weekend in Moab. We started out riding Steel Bender trail. This time we hit a part of the trail we had missed on previous trips. It rained enough to keep the dust down, but it was about to get wetter. From there we headed out to Metal Masher trail out by Gemini bridges. Definitely no dust on the trail by now, at least we could see the storms coming. We by-passed Widow Maker due to the rain and lack of enthusiasm to attempt it with winches. Flying down the dirt road at 40mph in the rain cooled us off enough to return to the motel to change and have a quick soak in the hot tub. With daylight savings we had enough time to hit Porcupine Rim for some more abuse. The trail was rough but the scenery was wonderful. The following morning we decided to take our chances and ride upper Kane Creek. This proved to be the best ride of the trip and also the wettest. While the creek was not really high, the rain was non-stop. Some of the obstacles proved difficult but not impossible. One guy decided to cross the creek and found it a bit deeper than expected and rolled his machine into the hole. He was wetter than the rest of us. All in all a good trip although a bit wet and cold. We cut it short by one ride since all our clothes and coats were wet. Moab is absolutely beautiful in the rain.
