I love how these huge corporations come up with their numbers. Like with the RIAA. If you downloaded a song they assume you WERE going to go to the store and pay 20 bucks for the CD.
Yeah.... Do you know how much money I saved by watching copyrighted content on youtube. :roflol:

What a joke.

I think it is just a political move by Viacom to get youtube to take material off of it's site. I can't imagine they really expect to get a billion dollars for this.

It's already gone.

The thing that gets me is that Viacom doesn't put music videos on it's damned stations anyway.

Share the love, not hoard the wealth. Damned media.

seeks $1bn in damages

Did YouTube just throw a brick through their corporate offices windows? :roflol:

Lesson of the day: If your profits are down from crappy programming, sue somebody to make up the difference.

Of course, nobody will mention the windfall the up-and-coming and out-of-date artists will receive because of their exposure on YouTube. That stuff would NEVER get airtime on networks or even cable.

Also, what Summit said. I watch old music videos on YouTube all the time, but there's no way in hell I would ever buy any of that stuff because I've already seen it all 150 bazillion times.

About once a year I need to hear AC/DC, Pink Floyd, and Led Zepplin just for old time's sake, but no way I'm gonna update my collection...but the kids who were born after these bands appeared probably will buy this stuff if they're exposed to it enough. Windfall, baby! Windfall!

:roflol: If by once a year you mean every day then yeah, I hear you.
I agree with the Windfall! these guys are getting a billion in free advertising. Biting the hand that feeds them.

Viacom wants to partner with Google because they don't how to do things other than the old fashioned way. Google doesn't want an old fashioned partner. This suit is to force them into a partnership.

I totally agree. Big Media should be grateful for the billions of dollars in free advertizing. I'm going to buy Ok Go!'s new album because their videos are on YouTube. Still, mainstream media is not the reason for YouTube's existence. It's the little guys like us UUTAH types posting our helmet cam footage that makes YouTube great. Just search "Moab" and you'll be entertained for hours by video of people trashing their rigs.

There's much more YouTube like media out there doing the same thing.

http://uutah.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3581&highlight=brazillionYou're right. It's Brazillion. Sorry for the inadvertent AC/DC diss. I'm jealous of the younger generation for their not being over-exposed to the good stuff like I was. (oh shit, that probably sounded like another slam, I'm such a dumbass sometimes!)
