What happens when you choose to "watch" a topic? How does it keep you updated?

I just joined up - met summit42 on Flickr and joined on his recommendation. Awesome site!

I believe you get an email every time there is a reply in a topic.

Welcome to the site! You can also "unwatch", or stop watching a topic, and you'll stop getting email notifications on it.

Thanks for the help guys.

What about the "mark this topic as read" link? How does that work? I ask because I don't see anywhere that I can choose to view unread topics. In other words, I don't see how to differentiate between or display which topics are read and which are unread.

When you come to the forum the threads with new posts will have a red icon. If you do not want to have those show up as new because you are not interested or because you know you have already read them, you can select "Mark all topics read". It just helps keep track of what you have and have not read.

Thanks man. Makes sense. It's just not completely intuitive. :-)

I ask because I don't see anywhere that I can choose to view unread topics.
When you're viewing the Forum Index (http://uutah.com/forum/index.php), there's a link on the upper-right side of the page (below the image bar) that says "View posts since last visit." Clicking that link will show you all the new posts since your last visit, so you don't have to click through all the different sub-forums looking for red icons. That's the way I always view the forums, and it sure is a time saver.
