Looking at it some more I'm not sure it isn't an airliner, so It's probably going to Disneyland.

It looks like the wings are painted a dark color and hard to see, also has two contrails from the twin engines.

I think it's a McDonnell-Douglas (now Boeing) MD-90. The wings are painted a dark color and don't show up very well, but if you look closely you can see them.

Way to ruin it for everyone. ;)

But, yeah, I agree, it's probably an airliner.

Ice, your guess is pretty good, and I don't have a better one, but look at the position of the engines. I think it might be a different model.

Nah, its a big ol' jet airliner, carry me to my home.

PHX or TUS to SLC, methinks. I just rode what looks to be the same flight path a couple weeks ago.

Might be Delta...

Cool.

I found another one recently as I was mapping a route for a long backpack across Canyonlands. Check out:

I can see the wings and the horizontal stabilizers. The engines are tucked away under the stabilizers. If the engines were mounted on the wings (such as a 737, 757, 767, 777, A320, A330, etc...) the contrails wouldn't be that close to the centerline of the fuselage. It's an MD80 or an MD 90.

They do launch missiles over Utah. A decade of so back there was a Tomahawk that blew up a USU experiment in the west desert. It mis-identified the experiment station (basically a Tuff Shed full of instruments) as its target. The big political problem was that the experiment was being funded by the Chineese government.

Naaahhhh, methinks you got some of that wrong...

Mighta not been a Tomahawk. Mighta not been Chinese. Mighta not been a USU experiment.

A friend of mine, was, ahem, arrested over the whole thing. The "situation" whacked his test stuff and homey didn't appreciate not being able to go check out his shizz, whilst a young feller held an M16 on him...and handled him wuffly, centurion...

If you've ever camped out near there, you can see all kinds of weird stuff at night. Its not called "proving grounds" or "test range" for nothing. I have some video of some of the testing that'd blow you socks off...

Uh oh...black helicopters...I've said too much...where's my tinfoil hat...

My dad went out to a police tactical traning range out that direction. The guys running the range told him that a few days before the black helecopters landed, some dudes in suits piled out, and started asking questions.

"What are you doing out here?"

"Running a tactical shooting range."

"Hmm... Well, be sure to run up the range flag while you're out here. We'd hate for you to see anything you're not supposed to."

Then the black helicopter guys asked if they could use the range. Word is they didn't do too shabby.
