I just found out I have a torn ACL. (Insert profanity here)
How's your day going?
If it will help you commiserate, our 14-year old is flunking math. :ne_nau:

That stinks. Sorry to hear that. If it helps, I will be to the doctors for my knee in a week or so if my little basketball "incident" doesn't feel better soon. Mine has been screwy for over a week and a half now and it ain't getting better. Course it didn't help to hike Larry canyon. (I had a neoprene knee pad/thing on to stablize it.) Surgery in your future?

I flunked math all through high school, and I really regretted it once I got into college. Taking algebra and geometry is much easier in high school when you have a teacher who actually gives a damn about whether or not you pass. (Plus, all of my math teachers at USU were graduate students from China who you could barely understand under their accent).
I know it won't make a darn bit of difference, but tell your 14 yo that I say to just suck it up and get it finished now so they save themselves the trouble in college.
Surgery in your future?
Probably, but I won't know for certain until tomorrow when I speak with an orthopedist.
The biggest bummer is that I was supposed to run a trail race at the end of March. I guess I'm going to have to drop out now.

Ah, optional. My ACL and PCL are both gone. Good riddance, I say - damn things are nothing but trouble!
Nonetheless, hope things look up soon!

Ah, man, that sucks. Sorry to hear that. I had an ACL reconstruction myself....
My day... recovering from a heart procedure where they had to "burn" around my pulmonary veins to stop an AFib arrythmia. Just waiting to get back to my 'real' life.

What a shame. Hope it's not the worst, and that you recover quickly. Tough to be laid up with spring coming.

Man...I'm gonna stop whining. No matter how uncomfortable my knee is at least they're not messing with my ticker.
Sorry to hear about that. I hope you get back to "real" life soon.

Who cares about Kris? My precious TreeHugger. I hope you are getting well by the minute. Sounds a little scary. Hang in there.
Actually Kris I had a good friend who played soccer at Stanford, freshmen year left knee, reshirt freshman year right knee, sophomore year both again. Needless to say, that was it. Good luck with recovery.

Hang in there Kris.
i had mine done a few years back
i got the blue plate special.
ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL and 60% of my miniscus removed.
aside from being able to predict weather, due to barometric pressure changes i'm way better off than i was.
good luck

Wow! Why, if you don't mind my asking?
I had an industrial accident - dropped a 1500 lb slab of granite on it. Ruptured both ACL & PCL, popped the MCL off the bone. Leg stuck out sideways from the knee 'til I went under the knife (about 3 hours!) Stapled the MCL back on, but they just left the cruciates - the knee's been really stable ever since, but a full reconstruction is always available if it worsens.
Kris, as you're hearing, it's incredible what they can do with knees these days. No worries!
jfeiro, if your other knee ever needs work, you can bet the results will be better than what they could do in 1979...
TreeHugger, all the best, and hope you're back at full bore 'real' life soon! Any idea how long that will be?

Wow, I finally just got back to this post - thanks soooooo much for all the well wishes, everyone! I'm happy to report I'm doing very well and plan to start running again this weekend, hopefully.
Kris - are you gonna go for the surgery? I can say that my ACL construction, which is about 10 or 11 years old now has been great - no problems at all with it, and back to normal activities in handful of months. I had it done in December so I wouldnt use up my summer, though.
Good luck to you!
Tree.

Yeah, I have the surgery scheduled for the end of the month. I had toyed with the idea of waiting until the end of summer to do it, but I'm afraid that I'll just do something stupid and wreck the knee even more. (I was planning on eight marathons, or longer, this season; and the idea of dropping out voluntarily just kills me).
Thanks for the support everyone. I'll try to remember everyone's good results when I'm stuck on crutches.

Good luck for you, Kris.
I had several knee surgery after an accident and they told me I could never run again. But I recovered completely and was able to run a marathon again. And I did well.
And today they can do so much with knee surgery, the results are really fantastic.
I am still running a few competitions and I never had any problems with my knee since then.
@ TreeHugger:
get well soon and good luck for your running start.
