I've just learned about these, I've gotta have one.

It was hurricane Katrina that got me thinking about a carbine, if I had to defend my house I could, I have the rifles for that, but if I had to leave, and walk the family a long distance to safety, Katrina showed that I couldn't carry an AK47 through the streets.

The problem is that I didn't really like the different carbines I've shot (CAR among them) for different reasons, too long, too heavy, too costly.

Enter the Sub-2000, it folds in half, to 16" long, cost less than $300, and comes in different models that fit magazines from popular pistols, how cool is that?

Straight from Kel-Tec:
The SUB-2000 is available in the following versions only:
9mm : Glock 17, Glock 19, S&W 59, Beretta 92, SIG 226
.40 Cal : Glock 22, S&W 4006, Beretta 96, SIG 226

I've been meaning to pick up a Glock, I've shot a few of them, I'd prefer a .40 (Kel-Tec doesn't do a .45 version), but I think the lower cost of 9mm ammo will dictate that I get a Model 17.

With a stack of magazines (including the 19 and 33 rounders) for both guns, a guy could carry a lot of firepower in a daypack, without freaking out the natives like an AK would.

A guy could use the carbine to engage hostile targets (soda cans) out to 100 yards, and use the pistol for use close confrontations (with more soda cans, perhaps seeking revenge).

A guy could get both guns, and ten mags, for about $1000.

That's a pretty damn good price and that gun looks pretty serious, what would the accuracy be when you are using it as a pistol? It looks like there isn't much of a barrel

It won't fire when folded, that would be a very short barrel!

The carbines are VERY accurate at short range, that is the beauty of them, their low recoil means a high rate of accurate firing, more so than a 'real' rifle, due to better recovery time between shots.

The longer barrel also means better ballistic performance than a pistol, with the same ammunition.

A high capacity pistol is short like the carbines, but they are not accurate, I actually think they are terrible, I've shot the Uzi, Mac-10, and HK MP5, and I am not impressed, to me, they are novelty guns.

The 2000 is a very handy carbine that fills in a good niche. It is cool that it is so compact.

Here is a good review of them with pics...

I also urge you to look at the Kel-Tec PLR-16 (I have one ordered.) The cool thing about this weapon is that it is a pistol, but shoots the 5.56, so it accepts the AR15/M16 magazines. It is capable of firing at 2600+FPS.

This review has a sweet video you have to see of it in action.

I think this weapon would be very useful in a SHTF scenario like we saw with Katrina.

I will post a full review when it finally gets here.

Also here is some good forums that will help you make your choice, whatever that may be....http://www.ktog.org/vbulletin/
