Well I guess I will have to cancel all my poker nights with the guys so the cops don't break in the door and arrest us :frustrated:

House OKs Bill to Clearly Ban Illegal Gambling in Utah
February 22nd, 2007 @ 12:30pm

(KSL News) The House gives its OK to a measure that "clearly" outlaws illegal gambling in Utah.

The bill says no money or anything else of value can be charged for players to get in or win card games, tournaments or bingo. The bill also states that people would be allowed to play poker or a bingo game, they just couldn't pay to do it.

Utah is one of only two states that has such a hard stance against gambling.

The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.

I thought that this law was already in place. I have been missing out on lots of gambling! Darn it!

I actually have not gambled in about 5 years, but the last time I did I was 1 card away from getting a straight flush in Caribbean Stud Poker. It was cool because they had to pause the game to call the floor manager over to observe (in case I did win). My fifth card gave me a flush and I still had a pay out of like 200 dollars, but if I had the straight flush it would have been closer to 2000. So the victory was more bitter sweet.

I dont know what the big deal is, Obviously they would rather us Utahns go to Wendover or Idaho and give another state our hard earned money for a few hours of fun.

I have played Bingo, and won a small amount of money. When Riverdale had their bingo hall.

When the Ogden City Mall was going down, and questions were rising what to do with it, I wrote the following letter to the editor of The Ogden Standard Examiner:

'Zions Casino' could profit big for Utah

The second-highest Powerball lottery has just been won. I made a trip to Idaho to buy some chances at the money. It is interesting to see how many of us Utahns go across the state lines to buy lottery tickets. Not only this, but Wendover is pretty close, too.

Do our governing officials not see this? Perhaps they are even participating in these acivities.

How would Utah profit from having a lottery, or even casinos?

Utah could cut some taxes if casinos and lotteries are allowed. Then Utah would get the money instead of Idaho and Nevada.

Perpahs this would sove the problems of the shortage of money for our childern's education.

Is there a worry that a certain group of people wourld spend thier money on gambling rather than the 10 percent ther are supposed to dontate to thier sect? Shouldn't they have a choice in what they do with that hard-earned money?

I think some changes need to be make and having a state lottery could ease some of the tax bruden for us Utahns, and provide some more money for our children's education.

We could even turn the Ogden City Mall into a casino, and ZCMI could come back as "Zions Casino Mormons Invited".

Imagine my suprise that they even published it!
