Anybody have interest in getting together sometime and doing some caching? We could either make a group activity and those who haven't really done much can figure out how it is done, or do a group hike to a cache, or make 2 teams and do a relay.... whatever.

Just a thought.

Awesome idea! :2thumbs: I would be up for it if the timing was right. I'll probably be in Orem on Friday (Feb. 23) all day for work, so anytime that evening would be great since I could more easily make it up SLC from there.

I guess there isn't a lot of interest in this idea :cry1:

It would be a great idea but I don't see me being able to join in on one anytime soon, I am in the middle of a kitchen remodel. Then about the time I get that done I will be having a new baby in the house.

I seem to recall UDINK having a hiking event cache type of thing going on on geocaching.com or has it already happened...
...a uutah event would be cool to do. Post the event cache on www.geocaching.com and then at the event you could 'recruit' more guinea pigs for UUTAH! :2thumbs:

Yeah, we hiked 14 miles on Sid's Mountain in the Swell last weekend. At least we had one Uutahn show up. I still need to write up a TR for that hike.

I'm all for getting together up north with some more of the Uutah crew. We could just do something informal, meet up somewhere and find a few caches, grab a bite to eat, hit the strip clubs, etc. :2thumbs:

Let's make a date for this and even if it is just the 3 of us or whatever, let's do it.

Hey, Geocaching sounds like fun!
Pencil me in if you don't mind having a novice along.

We'd love to have "novices".

Part of geocaching is just having an excuse to go outside and do something. The more the merrier!

I actually just made plans to go to Crystal Caves this Friday afternoon. So this week will probably not work for me. Sorry to disappoint.

If you are a city boy chances are there is a geocache within 1/4 mile of your house....

Here is a definition of caching: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geocaching

Here are the three main sites that I know of that list GPS Stashes
www.terraching.com
www.navicaching.com
www.geocaching.com

Not seeing many responses to this...

If no one objects I will go ahead and list the event. I just need some input on what when and where? I prefer something in Utah or Salt Lake county.

What would prefer to do:
1- An evening hike in a canyon somewhere
2- A weekend Day hike.
3- A simple gathering at a park pavilion then we go look for nearby urban caches?
4- A walk or bike ride along an urban trail such as Jordan river parkway
5- something else (suggestions please!)

When would you like to see it take place
1- a weekday evening (what night would you prefer)
2- on a Saturday (how long do you think it should last)

Where:
1- Utah County Provo or farther South
2- Utah County Orem or farther North
3- Salt Lake county south
4- Salt lake county North
5- Somewhere else (name your preference)

Please let me know what peoples preferences are and I will submit the event to geocaching.com.

Also, I DO understand why this thread was moved here, However I have to wonder if it would have a better response if this was posted back in the geocaching forum?

I think I would prefer a canyon hike on a weekday evening (except for tuesday bike night).
If we schedule a weekend we should make it a mini adventure like a few caches out of town (no urban caches) maybe Midway or above Heber?

Well I finally got around to submitting the event cache page.

I listed if for the Doughnut Falls trail head. It seemed like a nicy shady and easy hike for all to enjoy, and there is about 4 caches along the way to the falls.

Once the event is approved the page will be:
GC14D6R Event Cache: "UUtah Unite"
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=85bc7600-975e-4dd9-8059-8d9875d998ac

The current plan is for August 1st, meet at gravel trail head parking lot between 5:30 and 6pm, begin hiking shortly after 6pm.

This turned out to be a fun event. We all got soaked because it had rained, but it was still a good time.

I would like to see this a monthly event. Although given who showed up, I think next months should farther North.

Mtnman, or Sportsman you up for hosting one next month?

Sure. Any requests on where to go?

Somewhere cool and shady, we could also do something Urban and see who shows up. Although I prefer hikes.

Just keep in mind that geocaching rules prohibit caching events for the sole purpose of finding caches. So word the event cache page to show that the purpose is for UUtah people to get together.
