I have quite a list of things I would like to do this summer.
I want to take my 7 year old on the easier ones.
here is a list. If anyone would like to tag along, the more the merrier.

Goblin Valley
LWH Canyon
Spooky and Peekaboo
Minnetonka Cave

Utah County Highpoints
Utah 13ers
Mount Ogden
Mount Timp

Sounds like fun. Good mix of steep and deep.

It looks like I'll spend about 4 weeks total in Utah this year. Only a couple of specific goals at this point:

Feb 28 - Mar 6: Wire Pass, Buckskin, Paria solo. (3 weeks to go!)

April 23-ish to May 4-ish: Moab area with my 10 year old son, easy hiking and exploring for 4 days, then some biking with my brother, and maybe a canyon or two on my own. Perhaps when I have the dates down, I'll see if there's anyone here that's interested in joining up for a couple of days or something...

Early-mid October: I don't know! A friend and I want to get into more technical canyoneering then. Probably around the south - Zion, Kanab, Escalante - who knows? My friend'll join me for about 4-6 days, then I'll have a few days on my own - just me and the TJ.

What are some others' plans/goals?

:
Spooky and Peekaboo

when you're doing spooky and peekaboo, add brimstone to the list. it's dark and much spookier than spooky.

also you could walk up the main canyon from peekaboo, there are some nice narrows that go quite a ways, but will be less impressive after the slots. for quite a bit longer hike, you can approach these slots from the road, and walk these narrows both ways. it's kinda fun, though i don't know how long a day your 7 year old is up for.

Spring/fall plans--depends on work, as usual.

Want to BP along about a 60 mile segment Escalante River.
Finish some stuff around Grand Gulch/Cedar Mesa
More Uintas-- not sure where and what.
The Swell, gotta get back in there. Muddy Creek area, and Sids' Mtn and lower Black Box on the list. Have been in there mult times but as always never enough!!
Finish some things around Dirty Devil River Region, southern area.
Complete some exploration in the Grand Staircase, up on Wild Horse Mesa. Had an ultimate Jeep trip up there once so want to see more on foot.

I'm doing a multi day canoe trip in Montana, down the Missouri - it's actually an Outward Bound trip, end of June,

Then, a 2 week trip to Iceland - hiking and backpacking, end of July.

Also, a long weekend or so in Durango and Telluride, sometime.

And hopefully a couple of weeks back home in Michigan.

Utah County Highpoints

What are you going to hit in the UC?
I am down to hit Provo Peak and/or Coral Peak if those are on your list.

Naomi is at the top of the list, Timp isn't too far down either

I am going back to Alaska in the middle of April but when you hit the Utah County let me know, I'd be down with doing something. I'm sure we could hit a cache or two along most any trail around here.

I'm not very good at planning that far in advance, but right now my list is looking like:

- Mount Olympus (I'm scattering my mother-in-law's ashes up there)
- Mount Timpanogos (I haven't been up there in probably 15 years)
- King's Peak (Might as well get all of the popular spots out of the way)
- Deseret Peak
- Somewhere in the Deep Creeks (Maybe Ibapah?)
- Pfiefferhorn (This was on my list last summer, but I never made it)
- Somewhere in the La Sal's (Maybe Tukuhnikivatz - it's Edward Abbey's fault)

I want to plan a "quad canyon crossing" run sometime this spring, too. I'm thinking about starting in Lamb's Canyon, over into Millcreek, over Big Water into Big Cottonwood Canyon, and then into Little Cottonwood Canyon. I haven't worked out which trails I'm going to use, but I'll probably follow the Wasatch 100 course as much as possible.

I'm also hoping to get permits to do Mount Whitney with some friends in late August. I'll just have to cross my fingers on that one.

By the way where is the Pfiefferhorn? How do you access the trailhead?

the pfiefferhorn is a peak on the ridge which divides little cottonwood canyon and american fork in the central wasatch mountains.

while there are alternate routes, it's typically done from red pine canyon in little cottonwood.

I appreciate the beta. I have never heard of it before but it sounds like a good hike.

We should organize a UUtah trip up to the Pfiefferhorn sometime this summer. I'm certainly not (http://www.avalanche.org/~uac/archive/2006-2007/2007-02-21_advisory.htm) heading up there anytime soon, though.

I may have to scale back my summer plans - my wife may leave me if I spend this much time away from home every weekend.

The Utah 13ers has been a goal for me. I'd like to bag several of them this year. Lovenia is the only one I've climbed to date.

Pfieffer horn would be fun. I've never done that one. I'd be willing to go.

Leaving 2/24 to drive to Kanab, UT in the motorhome. Plan 2 weeks there, then (if weather cooperates) time in Escalante, Capitol Reef and Moab. Will eventually go next door and tour around Nevada. If the stars align, we'll also visit ID, WA and OR before turning around. On the way back, we'll try to hit a few new spots in CO and NM.

I climbed Ibapah last summer. One of the coolest hikes I've done. I love hiking remote areas. Getting away from the crowds is why I go.

I don't have set plans for a lot of things, but here's my wishlist for 2007:

Canyonlands Half Marathon - March 17
Coyote Buttes - March 31
something in the Cedar Mesa area
Dark Canyon
Death Hollow
Pfiefferhorn
North & South Thunder Mountain
Box Elder
Deseret Peak
Timp
Buckskin / Paria
the Narrows & Angel's Landing
Kings Peak
some ridge-runs, like the Wellsville Mountains
Mt. Whitney - Aug. 4
St. George Marathon (?)

I'll be lucky to get half of those, but you gotta aim high, right?

Pfieffer horn would be fun. I've never done that one. I'd be willing to go.

We should go for a trip in May/June. That will cut down on the boulder fields and make a much faster trip.
