Hey.... someone told me a bunch of the graffiti in Lep has now been removed. Is it true? Anyone have any details?
Also... I move the topic to Canyoneering because it seemed more appropriate.

Ah just think, in 2000 years a new culture of old people will take tours out in the desert trying to decifer the scribilings of the anticent 'natives'.

I am so fed up with graffitti, so mad at the defacement I see in the back country, that should I ever personally witness an act like those pictured above, I honestly fear my reaction.
An old school beat down is in order. At least.
At this point in my life, I no longer feel morally bound to suffer fools gladly.

See Wes Troy in the center? He lives a block from me. I can probably tell you where most of those people live! The mind set of the people around here is sad. Most of you would tear your hair out --- if you talked with them.

I was driving down to Zion with a couple of hot babes, sometime referred to as MILF's, when my wife calls me on the cell phone.
She asks "where are you".
My response was "I'm in the Fillmore Beaver area".....
The hot babes all crack up laughing....
The young 17 y/o male who's mother is now rolling on the floor with laughter replies "I don't get it".
Which starts anther round of uncontrolled laughter.....
fun trip.

Yeah, all the stuff below the last downclimb/rap has been chipped out. Still looks like crap. I'd like to snipe from up above with a paintball gun or a bb gun.

Alright.... I got the official word from the National Parks Service. When it comes to graffiti anything 50 years old, or older is considered historical and it to be protected and preserved. Anything 49 years old or newer is considered graffiti and is to be treated as such.
I thought you all might find that tid-bit of information interesting.

Yeah.... I believe I have a few that are about to become historical that were placed before I was enlightened.
I was telling some youngsters about Leave No Trace recently and I mentioned back when I was young that meant you tossed your litter behind a bush where no one could see it.
I was about 8 or 10 when the US started the big don't litter campaigns. Many of you oldsters probably remember the Indian crying commercial that was a big hit.

This reminds me of the "broken glass" theory. In Giuliani's book leadership, he discusses the fact that if you see a house with lots of broken windows you would not think anything of throwing a rock at the old house. But if the windows are not broken people are a lot less likely to break the first one. Giuliani believes that graffiti should be taken down immediately, windows should be replaced, etc. because it is easier to stay on top of it than gain control of it.

I like that. A man cannot be a legend much before he is 50 anyway. :haha: Some things just get better with time.
Is that 50 years from today or in 10 years its still 50 years from that date?

Three events which occurred during the year between March 1970 and March 1971 helped bring the concept of "ecology" into millions of homes and made it a catchword of the era. One was the first annual Earth Day, observed on 21 March 1970. The second was Look magazine's promotion of the ecology flag in its 21 April 1970 edition, a symbol that was soon to become as prominent a part of American culture as the ubiquitous peace sign.
