Funny you would say that, because I was watching The Longest Day with my son Mitchell, who is 14, and I explained all kinds of stuff to him about history and warfare, from why the Sten was so cheap to manufacture to how an rifle company can flank a fortification. I think we both enjoyed it, and in some important ways it was educational.

My big problem with Cruise is that he is no longer believable to me when playing the manly stud..... Now if Tom was playing the bitch in a prison film he would be totally believable. I just can't get the candyass girly picture of him jumping on the couch out of my head when watching his flicks...

Got to love those climbing movies! Touching the Void is powerful! That is the one show on all these lists I have seen that has stuck with me. What a man. What a story! For those that have not seen it, it's the true story (as it is remember by Joe and Simon) of two climbers and their perilous journey up the west face of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985. Joe is left for dead but manages to survive against incredible odds.

Now this is Man VS Wild!

Outlaw Josey Wales, Unforgiven & Little Big Man are several of my old favorites. I can't believe I forgot them.

"Deserves got nothin' to do with it...." :lol8: love that line....

I'm enjoying watching some of these old classics with my kids (9 and 11). They are old enough to appreciate them now. We watched Jeremiah Johnson, Butch/Sundance and Grand Prix over the weekend. I'm amazed how much of Zion is in both Johnson and Butch. The Crazy woman's cabin and the Roost Hideout cabin are the same cabin and were/are located on the Kolob road where you cross the private property. Good stuff...

Gene says, but I just finished my roof, er something. Ditto that. Classic and a ton of classic lines.

If you haven't seen, "the Last Seduction", its a doosey. Awesome flick, especilly if your a Peter Berg/Bill Pullman and/or Linda Fiorentino fan. Flys under the radar for sure.

Some bad B movies:

Toxic Avenger

Re-animator (which probably reached a new low in a scene or two).

Frankenhooker.

A super scary movie, is, "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer". X rated, and needs to be, for violent content. Sets the bar pretty high. 'Bout as close to a live snuff film without being the real McCoy...

Some of the old classics can be good. Watched High Noon the other night. Great flick. To Kill a Mockingbird.

Speakin' of Bill Pullman, Independance Day is pretty fun.

Blade Runner.

The Cowboys. Rooster Cogburn. The Green Berets. And what about Clint Eastwood???

Classic bad films.

I think Toxic is the flick with a scene where dude gets a crucial body part chopped off, and they play keep-away with it in the junkyard.

What about the bad black films of the 70s, we all know Shaft, but let's not forget other cinematic masterpieces such as: Black Caeser, Cleopatra Jones, Super Fly, Truck Turner, Cooley High, Brother From Outer Space, and the best one is probably: Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song.

Didn't check closely, but saw both "Repo Man" and "The Big Lebowski" mentioned -- two of my favorites.

Saw "On Any Sunday" and "Worlds Fastest Indian" on the list. "Dust to Glory" (by Bruce Brown's son) is about the Baja 1000, and has some incredible helicopter footage of Johnny Campbell and Andy Grider out front, swapping the lead.

Of course, any damned recommendation by Joe Bob Briggs will have entertainment value.

"Nosferatu the Vampyre" (Klaus Kinski) is one of the few horror flicks that actually gives me a chill.

Indiana Jones Movies are great!!!! There is something about Harrison Ford. That look on his face as he is getting beat up is great. :five:

..well, really, any movies that have Harrison Ford in them
.......I know, GAYDAR alert!
I really thought "The Fugitive" was a good movie.
see....anything with Harrison Ford is good...or Tommy Lee Jones for that matter.

I love Tommy Lee Jones. Did you see him in JFK? (another movie in my vault) One of his lesser known movies was called Nate and Hayes where he plays a "good" pirate. Action, comedy and romance. His character in Men in Black was hilarious.

Fandango!!!! I figured no one on this site had ever heard of the movie! One of my favorites and is in my vault. :2thumbs: Great 70s music and just a funny movie (ok...some serious parts too).

The Jerk and Old School are both winners. Sophomoric humor can go a long way. :lol8: Classics are Young Frankenstein (just about anything Mel Brooks I suppose) Bachelor Party (before Tom Hanks was too well known) Sixteen Candles......the list is endless and brainless. :haha:

"Dust to Glory" (by Bruce Brown's son) is about the Baja 1000, and has some incredible helicopter footage of Johnny Campbell and Andy Grider out front, swapping the lead.

Best scene in Dust to Glory is when the two Trophy Trucks come racing through town at 100+ and bank shost off the motorhome.... and the driver never lifts :haha:

If you like Dana Brown movies then you also want to check out Step into Liquid. It's done similiar to his old man's Endless Summer. (which is anther good flick if you like this type movie.

How romantic. ~swoon~ I also love the type of woman he falls in love with!!! I like how the movie portrays both of their characters. I love how Achilles feels about his...errr... the King too!

It's a love story!!!! Ani falls for the Princess, which is forbidden since he is a Jedi! and he destroys everything to try and save her -- which ends up killing her!!!!

~sigh~ Sweet!!!!

But even before that ... Jedi ruled!!!!! I love everything about it, but the last movies did get a little heavy handed in show and much less of a plot than the first 3.

It's like Star Trek. The originals were a great show because the relationship among Bones, Kirk and Spock. The newer Star Treks lost that!

Battlestar Gallactica rules!!! I love Star Buck!!!! She is HOT! :2thumbs:

Yes to both. Princess Bride was one of our first purchases on LaserDisc and we had to get it as soon as it (finally!) came out on DVD.

You've Got Mail wasn't bad, but for chick flick I prefer Sleepless in Seattle.

Comedies: Monty Python and the Holy Grail rules. Spinal Tap rawks. And I will always love Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Other: I'm not a musical fan, per se, but I loved Moulin Rouge.

Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?

These go to eleven.

I loved Moulin Rouge.

I liked Moulin Rouge too. When I saw it I was going to turn it off but my friend told me that if I made it a half an hour, I would like it. He was right. 30 minutes is where Ewan McGregor sing "Your Song" and I thought it got good after that. Once I enjoyed the rest of it, I was able to go back and watch the whole thing and enjoy it.

My vote for sexiest man of the year! :slobber: ... But then I like them big, mean and "ugly"! I totally dislike a mustache unless its with a full beard, but this is one guy that can pull it off!

Makes me miss my Judo days and training at the OTC! :cry1:

Time to resurrect this thread. Who has seen the new Bond film called Skyfall? Thoughts?

I really liked it. It kept me glued and on the edge of my seat for 2.5 hours.

I am embarrassed to see this thread and to think I once like the Guardian. I have only seen it once but I honestly only remember not liking that movie.

If I haven't already recommended it, I suggest "Lone Star State of Mind"
61346 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0269483/)

Lone Star State of Mind is a very random movie, and I guess you have to be in a silly mood, but that movie is dang funny.

Not a fan of Skyfall. Not sure I can crit it without giving away spoilers. No super gadgets is just gay though. And so many plot loops it's like they aren't even trying.

Go see Wreck it Ralph, it's awesome. Also really liked Cloud Atlas, but it might not be for everyone, watch the trailer 1st. I even liked the new Twilight movie, nothing wrong with some huge wolves ripping off a few vampire heads, hehe.

I am pretty sure you can't admit that and retain your man card. Even talking about ripping of vampire heads does not justify "liking" this movie. Duuuuuuude......:facepalm1:

Haha! Iceaxe took my man card a long time ago. So I'm gender neutral. I do admit I only saw it cause my wife asked me to, but I'm half-man enough to admit I really enjoyed myself. :roflol:

The previous instances were pretty rough to sit through though.

Geeze.... you have sex with a guy ONE time... Okay two times.. And it follows you the rest of your life. At least I have a couple recommends you "no movie watching" retardos.

Edit: I also saw life of Pi last night in 3d, it's really good as well. I notice some movies kinda do 3d as an afterthought and it tends to bite. There is an amazing shot right off the bat of this Komodo dragon or some monitor type lizard in the rain. Dude practically walks right off the screen and sat in my lap!

Highly recommend Wreckit Ralph. It's a kiddie show, but I got all teary eyed in a few spots. Another really good animated kid show...might be a classic.

The Campaign is pretty good. The Galifanakis/Ferrell combo is genius.
