Newbie me

Newbies... Oh to be truely NEW. Blood stains my hands. I love to hunt, fly fish; I mostly hunt paper as my health has gone down the tubes. I own and shoot several shooters. I fly only Gloomis and tie my own bugs. I do things for computers for a living.

I wasn't around on this forum when this newbie posted this so I couldn't welcome him and contribute to the thread. I dug it up today to look back and see what he had to say when he first joined. Geekstrap (John) and I have been friends for many years. We met while working for Iomega's IT department back in the 90's. Two computer geeks that loved everything from fixing them to gaming on them. I can't even count the number of LAN parties John and I attended. So many late nights/early mornings joining forces to take out the team in the next room. We did a few camping/fishing trips but nothing to amount to much outside because I wasn't the outdoor type like John was. Things changed for us a few years ago. His health got worse and I started to look beyond the computer keyboard and get outside more. We kept in touch, just not as much as we should have, you know how it is with friends. A year or so ago when I was talking to him about these great guys I was mountain biking with from this local forum we ended up finding out we had joined the same forum, just didn't know it. He told me about this post he had made to introduce himself that turned into something more then a welcome, I never took the time to look at it back then. A few weeks ago he called and left me a voice mail letting me know he was going to be around my area that day and asked me if I wanted to get together. At the time I was out enjoying the things he could no longer do and I never made the call back to him to let him know I was just too busy having fun outside without him. I wish I would have made that call, even just to say hello, big mistake on my part.

Tonight and tomorrow I have a viewing and funeral to say good bye to my good friend John and I'm not sure I have the strength to. So I came here to first say good bye to my friend Geekstrap and to let him know I'm expecting a trip report from the adventure.

Good bye Geekstrap. Thank you for all the great adventures. You will be missed.

This thread brought me a couple of lols from memories I share with most members of this thread. It also reminded me how life changes every day. It also made me sad to hear about John. Even though I didn't know the man, he already reminded me of one important thing, to hug and love my family as much as I can, since we really never know when it will be our time to take a leap.

I want to thank you John for that and I hope your family continues on your love for the outdoors. RIP and I hope your fishing and hunting up there is just as good as back here on this rock.
