I was just listening to this song, and I noticed something mildly unsettling. The second verse is where I'm finding my problem. Let's examine the lyrics.

He's double-dealing with your best friend...

Okay, pause. This is good so far. The narrator is obviously a male. And the subject, the person the narrator is speaking to, is obviously a female whith a cheating boyfriend. So far so good, right? But then, we get to the next line... which is also perfectly fine, until the last word.


That's when the teardrops start, fella.

So now... we find out that the narrator is actually spaeaking to a "fella", or male, who has a cheating boyfriend. Eek. Okay... that's weird. But it gets worse. Let's continue.


Pick up the phone, I'm here alone.
Or make a social call.
Come right in, forget about him.
We'll have ourselves a ball.

So now, our narrator has clearly left the safe and comfortable zone of the compassionate friend of a disfunctional homosexual couple, and is clearly homosexual, or at least bisexual, himself and inviting his homosexual friend to join him in their own encounters.

Wow. I have no idea how that got past me all these years!

(not that there's anything wrong with that... but damn, I guess the name of their band might be a little more appropriate than I had guessed)
