Speaking of arches in Colorado, who among us has spent any time exploring the arches in Rattlesnake Canyon just southwest of Colorado National Monument? I was going to rent a Jeep and go see them in 2004, but I ran out of time. Are they worth the effort?

I have and in fact used to live literally a few blocks from the lower trailhead.

Yes, and if you don't mind a bit of hiking there's a good and scenic trail right to the arches from the town of Fruita without needing a 4wd. I've come in both ways, but the trail is better in many ways IMHO since it passes through some interesting canyons and past an additional arch, plus has some nice views.

If you don't like to hike, you can rent a 4wd, but you do miss some cool stuff. It's actually only the end of the 4wd road that is rough. It's still a nice trip either by 4wd or by hiking.
