I'm headed out to Zion - solo over thanksgiving weekend, and was thjinking of doing Birch Hollow among others. Does anyone have any beta on it? was curious, as I have read the description on Climb-Utah website, but as conditions change and more traffic passes thru I was hoping for an update.

Thanks,
Adrian

Birch Hollow should be dry, it just doesn't have the ability to capture and hold large amounts of water. Since the canyon was bolted several years ago its really a pretty simple route as tech canyons go.

Good luck.... post some pics when you get back :2thumbs:

Well, Thanksgiving in Zion rocked. Did Mystery on thursday--it was a change going alone. It felt more intimate somehow. The canyon is dry except for the exit. Really just a pretty canyon pleasantly accessible and yet removed from all the people in the the main part of Zion.

Went to do Birch next day, but due to the need to get back to LA earlier than expected I had time only for a hike down and back up Orderville instead. Kind of a bummer-I was really looking forward to Birch, having heard so many great things about it. It was freakin cold in the canyon though.--The creek is iced over, and all of the water in it has sunken into the soil so there is only a crust of ice over the watery areas but it looks really pretty. First time down Orderwille and it was pretty impressive. Looks like a Birch hollow, orderville descent for the spring.
