Limewire. But, be careful with that stuff. I was doing it for a year, and I finally got paranoid that the Feds were going to come after me. I've downloaded many full length movies, right from DVD encryptions.

I keep hearing horror stories of people getting fines and stuff, but that may be rumors. So, I finally uninstalled it.

are you just trying to get them for free?

i mean, there is netflix. they pretty much have everything or at least most everything. there is a 3 day turn around for each flick. and if you felt so inclined ... you could easily rip each flick.

3 dvds at a time is like 18$. for an entire month. you could easily get 10-30 videos during that time period. at 10 videos that comes down to $1.80 per video ... not bad.

i dunno. all sorts of voodoo going on with limewire too.

I (as a computer security engineer) wouldn't recommend participating in Peer to Peer movies exchange. It's very easy to get tracked and get caught with illegal movies. Disney have sent us (Weber School District), two cease or decease letters already warning about illegal activity on our network. Sure enough we tracked it down to our web developer guy using torrent network to download Disney movies for his daughter.

A lot of my friends have received similiar letters from other media companies. Netflix is a great cheap alternative.

Stay away from LimeWire, Torrents are by far the best way to get movies, tv shows, music, and anything else you can think of legal and illegal.

http://torrent-finder.com/ best place to find torrents
http://www.bitcomet.com/ a great torrent client, this will manage your downloads.

Word of advice, Dont download movies that have yet to be released on DVD.

You are pretty safe with TV shows, but with movies released by Disney and Sony I would be careful.

It's VERY easy to track people on the torrents. If you have a decent client, it shows every IP you are connected to. All you have to do is go to ARIN and do a look up of the IP information and send out the first threat letter.

http://www.arin.net/

An organization who keeps track of all IP information.
For example uutah.com has an IP of 192.220.6.174, if you plug that into WHOIS field, on ARIN site you'd get this:

OrgID: NTTAM-1

# Enter ? for additional hints on searching ARIN's WHOIS database.

That is the company that uutah.com IP block belongs to. Now if I am trying to track down 192.220.67.174 (uutah.com), I'd call NTT America Support line and request further information. Since someone is paying for uutah.com with their credit cards, I can get that name very easily.

Wow, that's very useful.

Didn't ISP's like comcast go to court about this? I thought it was ruled that they don't have to release the information of subscribers to the MPAA. This may have been reversed or complete BS... anyone have some links?

Now your school district is a bit different than someone sitting at home using a cable modem. Get an Ip blocker http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/ not 100% but it will help, Best set up with be to download behind a proxy.

From a personal experience, I'd recommend just paying the $18 to Netflix and sleep well at night. I have been with the industry (legal and not legal) for over 12 years and I don't see a reason to go to jail for some stupid movie or a song. With the technology out there now, it's VERY easy to track a person or get an IP address.

A little off topic, but I have sat as a jury duty for a child pornography case in Utah and the guy was using Earthlink as his ISP. Sure enough, they sappena (spelling?) the Earthlink sys admin to pull the logs and get the personal information to track the offender. ISPs start to comply with companies now days, that is why sites like SuperNova and Napster have been shut down.

If you like to live on the danger side, then download away, but I'd be careful.

Piratebay.org (.se) - and a torrent client. I use Utorrent (tiny client)

Just remember to sort by number of seeds.

As always, use at your own risk.
