Does anyone have an easier trip planned in late October that my husband & I could join in on?
We have 30 years of experience in caving (including vertical) and trad climbing, and I would like to get into some easy canyons.
We will be flying on Saturday 10/21 and should be at Green River to Moab that night. We would like to see Arches and Canyonlands Nat'l Parks, and definitely must get into Horseshoe Canyon. Have been thinking of a 3-4 day backpacking trip in Escalante and will be flying home on 11/4. It would be nice to do an easy canyon or two during that time with some people who are familiar with them.
I am so looking forward to this trip!
Thanks!

Do you follow Toms Canyon Festivals at Yahoo groups? http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TomsCanyonFestivals/
They have a fest planned within the dates you specified. I'm not sure if it's full I did no research, but it would be worth looking into as there are beginner level trips planned.

Have a nice trip!

Don;
Thanks for the lead! I did not know about the Canyon Fests.
Unfortunately the October North Wash Squeeze Fest is overbooked, with no waiting list. Nonetheless, I might try to sweet-talk my way in because I see some people can't make it.
We don't really need to get in on Tom's real beginners trips since we are quite comfortable with rapelling. What we do need is knowledge of the area and characteristics of the canyons. And it would be wonderful to go with other people.
Be careful out there, and come back safely.

I agree with Don. You should try to get in on Tom's Fest. He claims it's overbooked, but I know of several people who have cancelled recently.

You might want to email Tom and tell him your story. Where you are coming from out of state and are new to canyoneering I know he will do everything reasonable within his powers to help you out. His festivals are usually geared around those in similar situations to yours.

Here is Tom's uutah profile.

You can email him directly from his profile.

I'm glad you were able to work it out. I can't even tell you how jealous I am right now! :haha:
Only a couple weeks left though...
Be sure to post a trip report as I would like to know how it went and maybe see some pictures.

You are doing to have a blast. Tom's Canyon Festivals are always a good time and North Wash is a fun place.

Post a TR and some pictures when you get back. :2thumbs:

I will definitely do that - photos and trip reports.
But you will have to give me a few weeks. This trip is to get away from civilization and technology, so no computer, but will have a digital camera.
It will be like caving with light, so pictures will turn out! cool!
Thanks again!
