We were turned back by snow and wet rocks about 600 feet from the summit. I think that Joe and Jason Miller were most disappointed.

Start Time: 5:30 AM
End Time: 6:00 PM

Group: Jason Price, Jason Summers, Jason Miller, Joe Griffin

Just too slick? Cold?

That really sucks. There are a lot of people who have to turn back from that summit.

I've been snowed on in August on the Grand. Which route did you attempt? Where/what turned you back?

This post shows what a stud Price is.... :stud:

Price posts it under the hiking section. Most folks think of this as a major climb. :haha:

Last year we defied death by going up the O.S. chimneys though they were covered in ice. This year I wasn't so sure I wanted to risk it.

Besides, Last year we had blue skies. The biggest problem this year is that a big cloud blew in right on top of us and visibility got worse and worse. There was just no way of knowing if it was going to blow over or turn into a major storm. We were right at the belly roll when we took a vote and decided to bag it. Seriously, the disappointment shows in the pictures.

The saddest part is that after dropping about 1500 feet, the skies started to clear a little. We probably could have made it, but had no way of knowing it at the time. Didn't want to be a statistic.

Last year . . .

i wasn't too disappointed after turning back. the meadows are definately the most scenic part of the hike. we saw some elk around 6:00 AM and heard them bugling. the elk are rutting right now and im sure they could smell price in heat.
