Hey - has anyone here done Chasm Lake in Zion from the top down? I've hiked up from the bottom, but I've heard several people have hiked from the Kolob res and rapped right down the cliff walls to the lake. I'm lookin for info on difficulties and rope lengths .....

I've never done the route, but here is what I know about Chasm. The route in from the top is across private property and has some access issues. Chasm Lake I believe is also private property with access issues. I know this property was recently for sale so I'm not sure where things stand at the moment.

Half a dozen rappels down to the lake all less then 200'. The lake is a long cold swim and you need a full wetsuit (or drysuit) and something to keep you afloat. Anther bunch of rappels after the lake if you stay in the watercourse and follow it to Willis Creek.... or.... you can exit over to Bear Trap Canyon, which has one small rappel.

From this point in the route you have a loooooong hike to get back out any way you wish to slice it.

If you do the route please post a TR.
