View Full Version : Having some fun over at the DWR

I love how some people get all worked up. Over on the DWR site the hottest issue is usually wolves in Utah. The issue brings out the best in rednecks! Here is the pic I posted. Then the pictures I used for the one I posted. It turned out very well and I haven't had anyone comment the picture looks fake! I'm now considering hoisting a troll up on top of the wolf going for a ride, or even bigfoot taking his pet wolf out for a walk complete with leesh and collar! :roflol:

:roflol: I like the site, it kills me how serious people get, including the DWR Admin.
sasquatch is a hot topic there too.
A post with both would take off!

Too funny!!! :roflol:
People want to believe so badly that they completely forget to view the world with a critical eye...
That forum is pretty uptight. I posted over there for a while, but then stopped after everything I had to say was always taken so damn seriously. That and I would ask for advice about hunting and fishing stuff, and jackasses would come on there and reply saying crap like... "Hey idiot, go read the proclamation!"
 :lame: I don't need that.

Those guys really don't understand the food web. Hunters and predators are not competing for the same animals. Seriously, they're not. Hunters are looking for the big buck/bull for a trophy. Wolves are looking for the sick/weak/young for the easiest meal possible. If anything having a top predator, like wolves, in an area will increase the health of the game population. Sure numbers will go down some, but the animals that are left will be more worth a hunter's time.
Of course livestock predations are another topic. Some of those guys need to learn about a program they have in Idaho called "shoot, shovel, and shut up," especially the shut up part.
Sorry for getting serious. I'm glad we have a board for people with broader horizons. That was sure a good ruckus.

Here's another great story about DWR. Last year when I was going to King's Peak, I wanted to know how the fishing was. I went into the DWR offices and the guy there had never heard of King's. :ne_nau:

The DWR just sent me a PM asking if the photo was real.
I spilled the beans knowing that wolves in Utah is actually a big deal.
I hope they find the humor in it also.

Five or so years ago they (meaning officials) captured a wolf near Peterson (between Mtn. Green and Morgan). They're around, no doubt. Still funny that you got such a rise out of those guys.

I'm deciding if I want to go back over there to stir some crap up.

They figured it was a fake but wanted to know for sure.
They left it up to me to spill the beans or not. Cory did say nasty rumors get stirred up because of harmless jokes and then they have to deal with it. My intent wasn't to cause the DWR anymore trouble than they already have so I spilled the beans.

That's the thing over there. They REALLY think you could have done serious harm! Cory gave you the "Either I can tell them, or you can tell them. Either way, they've got to know".
I probably know exactly what that conversation was like. Cory was expressing how serious the situation was, adding how harmful the consequences could be.
Yeah, that's right. Lock a 13 page thread because of a fake photo. :roflol:

Can somebody fill me on on what the joke is? I guess I am left in the dark. All I can guess is a realistic photo was altered and put on a website pretending to be a wolf. Hell, I probably would have been fooled as well. You never know where a wolf can be. Doesn't Utah have any wolves? I figured that it did.

He photoshopped a pic and put a wolf in it. It started this 13 page riot on whether or not wolves are good or bad.
A bunch of "wolf protectors" spoke up damning people who want to protect themselves and their families against them. All hell broke loose, and they locked the thread, all because icthys photoshopped a pic. :lol8:

I can see how that can happen. I mean, not everybody is that good at picking out a photoshop job...including me, and just like on here, we have had arguments/debates start over something silly and last for days. I am just saying that I could seen the same thing happen over here. Especially if you have someone come on and swear it is the truth and the picture is legit. I will say, I did not read all 13 pages though, only skimmed thru like 2 of them.

Wow. The reach of this prank is astounding!
Story:
So after reading this thread and finishing work, I go home and play some raquetball. I get back to the apartment complex and some neighbors are heading up off-roading (actually dirt-roading) on the squaw peak road above Provo. I wasn't doing anything and this one hot chick I'm interested in was looking for someone to ride with, so i was definitely in. We get to the top, pull out to look down Rock Canyon at the lights and lake and the conversation is about hunting or something and one of my friends whos an avid hunter (and obviously follows the DWR forum) says something to the effect of "Yeah, so they spotted a wolf up in the Uintahs a few days ago. Some guy snapped a picture of it and now people are getting all kinds of riled up about it. I guess he's keeping the gps coordinates secret cause people are threatening to go track it down. The DWR is getting involved and everything. Crazy stuff."
My jaw dropped. People started getting into the conversation, stating their view points, and I was like "Uh, dude, that was a photoshopped picture. I follow another forum where the guy who posted it spilled the beans. "
"No way! Seriously?"

It's turning into an urban legend. "yeah, I heard that he even saw the wolf chewing on a shoe"
Now, where are my sasquatch pictures? It's time to start my own.
Maybe I'll get a Nigerian email sasquatch going.

See, the thing I do not get is that I could easily make up that I saw a mtn lion nearby (they are in San Diego) and post a picture of it, and then everybody would take my word for it as well. A sasquatch is a WHOLE different thing though, but seeing a wolf is very believable to me. If someone told showed me pictures of a mtn lion that they saw, I would probably believe them, I mean, I would figure why would they say otherwise.

It's just that wolves are very controversial right now.
There's a story about a month ago how this guys dogs got completely eaten up by wolves, and they're on the Endangered Species List.
Also, it's just that forum that's "High and Mighty" when it comes to telling people about what is right and wrong concerning animals.

Yeah sasquatch and wolf/mtn. lion are two very different things here. You're right that people have no reason not to believe a picture of a wolf or mountain lion, so the joke really isn't on them at all. I think the entertainment value in it is that Icthys and others (myself included) enjoy stirring the pot a little and watching people get into it, even if it takes posting a doctored photo or story.
