Hey there, I'm afraid I can't help with exact mileage but I thought I'd chime in and say it is a great section of trail :2thumbs:

We rode part of this section yesterday from the bottom of Tour de suds up to the top of John's trail. It was probably 70% rolling downhill with a few short little off-camber fun climbs. It's awesome riding! (I'm sure you're familiar with the area where Mid mountain starts above Johns/Sweeney's... That's the end point I'm referencing b/c that's where we usually start to ride toward the canyons)

I would guess that the section we rode was probably 5-6 miles long..? And I would also guess that there are another 2 miles of trail from where we joined it back to the Deer Valley trailhead.

Of all the rides to have the Garmin along with us, yesterday was it.. and of course I forgot it, otherwise I would have exact mileage for ya!
Have fun and let us know how your ride goes if you do that section!

Thanks, Ian.

We rode from Deer Valley to Spiro and down last week, it was awesome trail (til the storm hit and lightning flashed 10 feet from us! and hail and rain.....) That was about 8 miles with the climb up Tour de Homes. (to Spiro, not including it) I think Johns/Sweeny's is past the Spiro turn off, right? or before? I didnt see any signs for either before the Spriro turn off..... I get very lost up there! I have some friends visiting so I want to act like i know what I'm doing! haha!

Oh cool, so you've ridden that whole section then! Ok.. so quite a ways before Spiro do you remember riding past a big long white building with a bunch of heavy equipment? Well right after that you come out of the trees into a big opening with a large mine building on the south and a chairlift to the east. That's the top of Johns trail, and that's where we usually start riding. (which is south of Spiro)

So if it's 8 miles from D.V. to Spiro then I over estimated the mileage we did. It's probably more like 6 from D.V. to the Johns intersection, then about 13-15 from there to bottom of Holly's Lookout trail in the Canyons I believe. (just in case you don't have one, you can get a really nice trail map for free at the bike shops in P.C. Jan's, Colesport, etc.. it was indispensible for our ride yesterday!)

have fun with your out of towners :2thumbs:

Ahhh the spiro... :cool2: The last time I rode a section of that was from wasatch crest over the top and into PC. You can hook up with those trails by taking the eastern trail at the junction of puke hill and the trail from the pavement.

We logged 27 miles from Deer Valley to Pinebrook on the other side of the Canyons on Saturday in the sweltering heat. Didn't hit the trailhead until 11AM. It's a fun trail, long, only moderately strenuous, and a little less than technically demanding. Good choice for some roadie friends that think nothing of 80 or more road miles but rarely ride much trail.
