Hiked up to Catherine's Pass yesterday, to get out of the heat and to enjoy the wildflowers. My intent was flower photography. Here are a few. If you get a chance, it's really stellar right now.

Catherine's Pass hike is above Alta. Just keep driving on the canyon road and you'll come to a little booth, go through that and you'll come to a parking lot 2.5 miles up (dont let them convince you to park low and walk up, you'll likely find a parking spot if you just go there). Park there and the trailhead is directly across from the parking area.

From Catherine's Pass (it's only 1.5 miles to the pass) you can keep hiking up and end up on Sunset Peak - absolultely amazing views from up there and a fun hike up. Or... you can hike down to the lake and as far as you want to Brighton.

I saw a big ol' bull moose on that hike too! :-)

pretty photos :2thumbs:

i really like the way the paintbrush glow in that one!!

random fact: did you know that there are well over 210 species of paintbrush? one of the major botanists studying it has been quoted saying something to the effect of studying the genus Castilleja (paintbrush) makes atomic physics look like child's play. :haha: I always found this amusing
