If I were to rent a U-haul trailer, and my Jeep doens't have a hitch or ball or anything - what do I need to be able to pull a trailer?

It's a 1995 Cherokee Sport.

I don't know what I'm looking for or if I get it how will I know it will pull a U-haul trailer?

I actually need to install a hitch on my Toyota.

I'm not sure if Uhaul will have any other options for attachment, besides a hitch, but if you're going to get one, just get a Class 3. It's the average size of most trucks, with a 2" ball.

Be sure to install the lighting package as well, and not just the hitch. You will want your brakes and signals to be working on the trailer.

What on this page do I need?

I see a few things with a Class III next to it (ball mount, draw bar, etc.) I know nothing here mind you.

U-Haul will install the hitch and light kit for prolly around $200 (last time I checked). They do a pretty good job too. This includes the hitch and light kit of course.

I must have been talking to an idiot at U-haul. I said "how much do these things run", he said $20 for this and $20 for that. He mentioned nothing of them installing it there. I'm going to have to call back.

I would look somewhere that sold the whole package. That website makes you piece it all together, which will be more expensive.

Just look for a complete towing package with a Class III, 2" Ball, and Lighting package.

Yeah I wouldn't buy from the website. I would just stop into a U-Haul and see what they can do. Or you can have Cleatus install it at the local Bobs Auto. :lol8:

Ah, I'm learning! I need a hitch, a ball, and light kit. That's what I needed to know!

The Uhaul guy (I got an actual adult this time) quoted me at $278
$144 hitch III
$75 installation
$35 ball
$24 lighting kit

Hmmm. I need to think about this.

Just make sure that's the complete kit. Some people will sell you the "tongue" seperate. This is the part that the ball fits on, that slides into the receiver.

Y'all crack me up :naughty: :lol8: Uhaul is great the class III receivers come with a lifetime guarantee, which we redeemed! some chick tagged my Jimmy totaling her car and only bent out hitch a little, Uhaul replaced the hitch no questions asked!!

Class III hitch that accepts a 2" receiver
2" receiver that has a lift or a drop to haul your trailer Laval
2" ball
Lighting package
hitch pin

i think your going to be around 300 bucks, if your on a budget, you can all A-1 or any local salvage yard and install a used one yourself.

tips on towing: check lug nuts, always run recommended tire pressure, inspect Axle for stress fractures, try not to use overdrive when towing, don't let the auto trans shift in and out of third and forth gears, when come to hill manually drop it down a gear, prevent shift busyness this over heats the tranny, and always check your hichpin is in and the latch is down on the tongue every time!!!!
