I thought this would be a fun topic. I found some crazy Utah websites. :eek2: We are getting ready to hit the Wind Rivers. Perhaps we can spot some there? :lol8: Is this thing real? Who has heard stories or what have you seen?

It's really interesting you brought this up. so most people don't believe in bigfoot because there is no real hard evidence for it., for example a skeleton.
i lived for a year in extreme northern california, very very close to the siskyiou mountains where the famous video footage of the bigfoot was shot. nearby where i was living, there is a bigfoot museum too. i have read numerous accounts of early loggers who claim they heard screams in the forest at night, screams from animals they couldn't recognize. on many occasions they found their logging equipment destroyed the following mornings.
a sierra hiking book by john hart provides two alternatives. (1) there is a population of hairy upright walking beasts wandering all over the western north america. (2) there is an (or a group of) organization(s) which have been constructing bigfoot prints, which as yet cannot be debunked, over hundreds of thousands of square miles from california to canada, for the better part of a century. BOTH seem absurd. but then again, if it's not a hoax, why don't we have ANY evidence besides footprints? are there no skeletons because they bury there dead in places we NEVER look? i am sure if such a species did exist, they would be intellligent and could possibly evade humans quite well, after all they know the forest far better than we do.
one thing is for sure, in the lower 48 states, we have already logged MUCH of the forest ages ago, so during this time we would have pushed them deeper into the wilderness.
but it is interesting that a hairy upright walking animal is a natural part of folklore of indigenous peoples from himalaya, siberia to north america. is it simply a manifestation of a bear->man? or is there something more to it? could they have been more plentiful and were confronted sharply by early indigenous peoples from thousands of years ago, so that now they are extremely elusive for their survival, and, consequently, have become fokelore?
even Jane Goodall claims she believes in the existence of bigfoot

all i know is that i don't think we can say anything definitively just yet, but anyone has the right to *believe* bigfoot doesn't exist.
wait a minute, i think i have seen bigfoot lurking around this forum...although he doesn't go by the name sasquatch....more like sombeech. :haha:

The lack of skeletons? I actually have to agree that this does NOT DISPROVE the sasquatch theory.
For example, we know bears exist, but how many bear skeletons have been found? Not very many at all. Sure, we come across deer, elk, and moose carcasses once in a while, but consider the population ratio.
Then, think of how many cougar, or mountain lion carcasses we come across. Hardly any. Sure, some have been spotted, but not as many as you would think.
So, I don't think the lack of skeletons and carcasses disprove the theory.
Then, the lack of photography issue... I'm still both sides on this, but then I read all of these uutah trip reports where nobody had a camera! :haha:

a natural part of folklore of indigenous peoples from himalaya
My sister has a book with pictures of an animal that it's thought was the root of the whole Yeti myth in the himalayas. Maybe I'll see if she can scan the pic for me. It looks more like a bear in her book. They have a stuffed one somewhere.

a well-known explanation is that bigfoot is a descendent of a giant ape (orangutan, genus is gigantopithecus) that we have some fossils of. probably the largest primate (and primate brain) ever to exist, as far as we know.
i was hesitating to mention this, since it sounds like you are talking about something completely different, especially if it is something stuffed.

We had bigfoot visit us on a scout camp up near Cub River almost 30 years ago. He screamed and broke branches and in the morning we found scratch marks on the aspen trees!! Holy @%@! I thought it was a hoax, now I am finding out that it might have been real!!
