Check out my new purchase.

This is an early 70's Olympia steel frame. 4 of my 5 bikes at home are steel frames now.

Gear ratio 44x16 cog. Fixed gear, and no brakes of course!

jinx is on the board with his first post! :2thumbs: Welcome to the club, only 3000 more to go! :lol8:

Fixed gear, you're crazy man. No brakes- well, no hand brakes.

wow that is one clean looking retro! ya think ya have it good on a SS with no derailleur slapping around and then you go and take ALL the cables off... that baby looks fast! :ride:

I've always wondered what it would be like to ride a mountain bike fixed gear on the trail. Ever done that?

its scary fast!! i have never been more scared on a bike than when booking down a hill on this bad boy, i just figured out how to skid last night so i can pull emergency stops when i get cut off, still need tons of practice though as the rash on my elbow can prove. i have never tried a fixed gear mtn. bike, my first thought would be too many rocks causing stubbed toes(because no free wheel obviously). but maybe after more experience on this i would give it a try.
i always thought it was corny when a fellow fixie rider commented on being one with the bike, but after taking my turn i fully agree. its unreal!
the only upgrades i plan on doing is a brooks vintage seat and a new crank set.

Do you think clipless pedals will help with the stopping?

Sweet bike Jinx. I definitely like the retro style. :2thumbs: I will say though, IMO, that riding any kind of bike on the street without any brakes is very unwise. I know some messengers myself, and all of them have had some form of mishap because of running no brakes. I don't really care what an individual does to themselves but when you endanger others (skidding out of control in front of cars, unable to stop), that is where the "wrong" is to me.

My advice, ignore your purist buddies, your pride, and throw a front brake on that beauty. You'll live longer, and maybe others will as well! :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Nice conversion! I agree, put a front break on it. I used to ride brakeless until I rear ended a truck that cut me off. Skidding and skipping can slow you down, but nothing stops you better then a front brake. :)
