Olympus is a fun one, but really steep. My wife is from Iowa and Olympus is the first mountain I took her on when she moved here. She about killed me on the way up, but was really exited once we were on top. Cool pics. :2thumbs:

nice photos!!! yep it's a steep but great hike (used to be steeper before they realigned the route).

if you had a sweet time, but still want more, next time, take that new backpack of yours and a bunch of water and camp in the saddle just before the peak. this way you can enjoy the magnificent sunset over the great salt lake, from just about the best place possible. it's best when the twin peaks still has snow on them and the moon rises behind...oh!! :2thumbs:

You picked a good time of year to go as that stream dries up pretty early in the summer. Very steep, nice views. Try climbing down through the canyon on the east side for some real challenges!!

more a good year, as there was a ton of snow compared to most years, especially recent past before last year.

another great hike is right up the north face of olympus.

Mount Oly was my first big mountain. My friends and I did it in 7th grade after reading "Banner in the Sky" in English class. We put a big 5'x10' flag on the summit that you could see it from the school yard with binoculars. The entire English class went outside to have a look, we though we were world class mountaineers after that.

Heck yeah, I tried that once. The first time I ever climbed it, my friend and I got somehow off the trail right where you cross the stream. It looked like the trail followed the stream up (this was back in the 1970s), so we just went that way and kept on going. We ended up having to creep along four inch wide ledges before we were through.

Congrats! It's a classic.

I love the Mt. Oly hike. I went up to the trees above blister hill yesterday evening for an evening hike. I was not prepared for the bugs in the trees.

Like golfers have a home course, this would be my home mountain. I just hate leaving my car at the trailhead. I have never been broken into, but there seems to be new glass shards everytime I park.

Yeah, this sure seems to be the trend. Some joker broke into rock_ski_cowboys truck last year when we hiked it. :frustrated:

.......and hike up that slope with a pack! :eek2:
