There have been a ton of cool pics lately, and we want to add them to the image bar above. This is the place to put them.
If these pictures already exist on this forum, PLEASE HOTLINK THEM. If they are not yet on uutah.com, you can upload them.

Hotlinking instructions:

A hotlink is copying the URL of a picture, and displaying it on a thread so the picture shows up. When you see a pic you like, right-click on it, go to properties, and copy the URL address of it. Come to your post, and either hit the Img box above, or type in . After the [img], paste the URL, and finish it off with , or hitting the button again.
An example is this:
http://uutah.com/forum/files/img_0191__small_.jpg
And it will turn out like this:
http://uutah.com/forum/files/img_0191__small_.jpg

SUGGESTIONS: Pictures of you, or our users are nice, but where they are clearly doing some cool stuff like canyoneering, climbing, biking, hiking, jeeping, or gettin' some nice air time! :cool2: Nice scenery is a plus as well, such as cool arches, waterfalls, mtn peaks, lakes, singletrack trails...

They will then be resized to fit the required ranges. As they are currently, these pics will still show up randomly in the image bar above.

Now, let's see your favorite pics!

Lets also limit it to 4 pictures per post. That way the loading time is shorter for the pages. If people have more than 4 photos have them post in 2 different posts.

Here is a couple.

Thanks sombeech. Sorry about the multiple photo post. I wasn't sure if you really wanted us to put [img][\img] or just to post the location (i.e. no [img][\img]). I suppose it's easier to look at them this way.

I am sure others are curious how this will be handled long term. Do you want them continually added to this post? Will you start a new post? Something different altogether?

many thanks

We'll probably just add pictures to the image bar once in a while. We'll let everybody post on this thread for this time, and in a couple of months, we may start a new thread again.

Thanks again for the pics. I'm looking forward to some new scenery up there.

Hey treehugger (i am one too!!) see below.

Uhh, thanks for the very nice compliment. neither, i just like remembering the places that turn me on. and of course, the colorado plateau is so ridiculously photogenic, it simply lends itself to nice photos.

Yours are great too!! Love the catherine's pass, with the golden aspen. That's one of my favorite areas to ski, deep often untracked powder, north facing aspect (from sunset peak), high elevation super dry snow....subalpine firs and engelmann spruce. great place up there, any time of year!! thanks for sharin'

Actually, we've cut the checks out. It's just down to slutty women now. They don't even have to be hot.

I know this thread has been going on for a while, but now that we've got a great collection of pictures, I'm going to start cutting them down to size. Even though I'm not the one who loads them into the bar, I'm going to help with the step of cropping them down to the correct measurements.

I am also going to find the links to any trip reports that these were found in. We will work on the feature of clicking on the picture, and it will take you to the original thread it was posted in so you can see the full size version. :2thumbs:

Good idea! I have also been planing to train Sombeech on the imagebar code and all things related. So he can help do some updating. We all know he doesn't do anything at his job. I have like 15 other sites that I manage... :compthrow:

As soon as he gets going we will get it rolling much quicker. Its also tough cause some pictures just look awesome until you size them down. Then you cant tell what someone is doing, or cant see them at all, or you lose detail. It sucks... :wallbash:

i like both and think both have their place. sure this is a forum about people in the outdoors,
but many of those people go to the outdoors and enjoy landscapes without people.
i think the pic bar is well balanced with and without people.
i think it's great the way it has been.

OK, I feel I've done some decent work tonight after midnight.

I've added @45 new images to the bar. Hopefully this makes up for my slow action on this. You'll notice some of the photos didn't make the cut. Unfortunately, some of these super photos do not look that great when they are small, so I've passed on them.

And now that I've found a quick way to do it, keep 'em coming! I'll continue to take requests on this thread.

P.S. Hopefully I've lined up the correct authors with the right pics. If you see any mistakes, let me know. :cool2:

Hey Sombeech, my pic (the one on the bottom) is mirrored. Not that I'm ungrateful :hail2thechief: but there might be an issue with the code. It's awesome that more pics are making their way onto the image bar.

stefan
09-20-2006, 07:37 PM
so ... it has been reflected horizontally, so that points on the right of the midpoint line have been moved to points on the left. this is most clearly shown by the ropes around his chest.

in photoshop lingo it's been "flipped horizontally"

Oooohhh, OK, now I see. Hell, I thought it was more technical than that. :haha:

What do you mean by mirrored? It's showing up fine on my end. I'm using Firefox.

This is the only one of mine that I've noticed is mirrored (looks like a mirror image of the original). The rope was over my right shoulder (left of the pic) instead of my left shoulder. It still looks good, just flipped left to right. It's not a big deal. I just wanted to alert you to a potential problem. Here's the original just for a comparison. Maybe I'll check it out on my roommate's Mac to see if the problem is on my end.

(EDIT: I guess I should read before I write. It looks like you and Stefan figured out the problem. Thanks for the help Stefan and Sombeech. The additions to the image bar are AWESOME :headbang:. I especially love the smily mountain goats. )

Very cool! I have one suggestion. If a single user is in a picture I would put their username on the photo rather than the person who took the pic. Kinda showing who is in the photo. Just the single user shots, the group photos can stay as the person who took the photo. Or if they are not a user then it would stay as the person who took the pic. Make sense?

Working on getting pictures of my highschool homecoming bonfire. We burried a telephone pole standing straight up in pallets and spools. Over all, it was probably 12-15,000 sq feet at the base. Much more mass than the previous year's. Only took us 2 weeks of straight work to build. (Principal excused all absenses, and the entire football team would help as soon as practice was over each night). And then one night to burn. (plus another 2 weeks of smoldering)

LWH was my first experience in the Swell, and I was captivated by it. I had hoped to return to the Swell in March, but the weather didn't do me any favors. I can't wait to get back and explore more. One of these days I want to begin training for true canyoneering.

This image in LWH was made with my 14mm, which has since been replaced by a 12-24mm. This ended up being among my favorites from the whole trip, and it's framed and hanging in the hall of our home. Even with the 14mm (equivalent to a field of view of about 21mm in film terms), I was pressed as far back into the opposite wall as I could get. The depth in the image is aided very much by the quality of the light.

My wife thinks a 10.5mm fisheye lens would be fun, and I agree. Of course, I'll have to re-hike everything if we get one.

LWHC

since you first posted this shot i have always been intrigued by it. the colors (as always) are incredible. but what really gets me about this shot mr. barron is how 3-dimensional it appears. i am assuming this is part of the appeal to you as well?

Of course, I'll have to re-hike everything if we get one.

yeah. this field of view is a MAJOR issue in slots. the fisheye would be incredible. eric godfrey (shaggy) and i were talking about this with his video camera, but it's a bit expensive. have you seen the movie dogtown and zboys? i mean, not only how cool was it that this guy filmed all of these guys when they were literally pioneering modern skateboarding as we know it, but he had wisdom and foresight to use a (partial?) fisheye lens. very cool.

i MOST CERTAINLY think you should get one. you could have all SORTS of fun with it. but i think you could capture slots in ways we have always dreamed of. i know you're trying to get to crack cyn. (excellent canyon btw) definitely try to get one for that canyon.

have you been out to spooky & peekaboo yet? (escalante) these are really really fun canyons with beautifully carved and tight narrows. fisheye could ROCK in there. there are also some good narrows in the main fork of dry fork (coyote gulch) directly up from peekaboo. it's a bit of a drive out there though, compared with the stuff in the swell san rafael.

Now, for everybody else... You may see that your pic has been trimmed a little, but not because I think it sucks. I just have to fit them to certain measurements. The large ones are 153 X 115, and the skinny are 86 X 115. Other than that, the only reason I trim is to see the main feature better when it's that small.

Just a little suggestion on the labels on the banners --- its nice for new people to see the label on the picture as the person who is in the shot.

But - They could be labeled like:

"Iceaxe's favorite canyoneering babe, Hesse"

This lets us know its Shane's photo but also that its Hesse who is in the shot.

Just a little suggestion on the labels on the banners --- its nice for new people to see the label on the picture as the person who is in the shot.

Depending on what browser you use: With IE, you can hover the mouse over the picture, and the text will appear. With Firefox, you have to Right-click on the picture, and select Properties. Then you'll see the alternate text.
