heard a rumor that conditions in Neon had recently changed fairly drastically.

Can anyone confirm or contradict that rumor?

I'm planning on going there in about 3 weeks and just want to be prepared.

There was a post about a week ago over on the canyons group ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canyons ) that detailed the conditions of Neon. I don't remember what it said, something about being fairly easy with one keeper to overcome. Neon is a nice canyon.

A group of three friends and I went through Neon on Fri. May 19th. This was my first time through. Everything I had read about Neon said that it was very wet and to expect a lot of swimming. We found the canyon to be quite dry with no full swimmers and only a few wades the deepest being about chest high. The keeper was about waist deep and was easily escaped with the help of a log and a little creativity. It also looked like someone had replaced the webbing at all the raps. Overall it was pretty straight-forward, but we all know the conditions can change quick. Hope this helps.

My buddy posted some pics of our May 19th Neon trip here: www.codyb.myphotoalbum.com There is a pic with a guy rapping into the pothole. You can see the log we used to escape. Hope this helps.

Dang, my secret is out. He is rapping on my Spongebob sheets. I bring them so I don't have to bring a rope AND a sleeping bag. :haha:

Actually it is a 60' piece of 1" tubular webbing. I like to use it for aiding down-climbs and short raps. The rap in the pic looks a lot farther than it actually is.
