I hit Monument Peak in September of 2003. Since you can drive right to the top of Monument Peak, there's not much to report about the trip. The drive through Eccles Canyon on the way there was the most interesting part of the trip, as this was my first time on that road. We had to stop on a side road in Eccles so my wife could feed our 3-month-old son, so my oldest son and I got out and did a little sight-seeing there. The drive on the dirt road up to Monument was your standard run of the mill mountain drive. We passed a couple of sheepherder camps along the way, but otherwise didn't see any other people.

Parked just off of Eccles Canyon

:lol8: Definitely the easiest of all the peaks to bag in Utah!

Thanks for the memories. A few years ago I spent several weeks up there around Monument Peak as a summer intern for DOGM, studying surface subsidence as a result of longwall mining by the Skyline Mine.

Those were gooood times!!!! :2thumbs:

Speaking of Skyline Mine, here are a couple more shots of that area:

Click for panorama of the silos and the conveyor that runs from the mine to the railroad loadout (http://www.udink.org/pictures/09132003/coal_loadout_conveyor.jpg)

Thanks for the TR Udink, I have added it to the Utah High Pointing Index (http://uutah.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=14340).
