Ok....since I am bored and can't drive for another 3 days, here is my latest story. I chalk this up to the kind of crap that only happens to me. :haha: :ne_nau:

Beware the attack of the parking lot light pole!!

I was walking back to my car in the parking lot at Mimi's restaurant (Southtown Mall in Sandy) after having a late lunch with some friends on Sunday. A gust of wind blew really hard and the last thing I remember hearing was someone behind me yelling "Look out!" :chairshot: I didn't know at the time what hit me, but later found out that it was the top from one of the parking lot light poles and its glass cover flew off from the pole and fell on top of my head. :eek1: I wake up in the ER.....my shirt is soaked with blood (mine) and the room is spinning like a top. I've got a major concussion, tiny slivers of glass in my face and hands, and a gash across my forehead. They kept me overnight for observation, but I got to come home yesterday. I have a giant bump on the top of my head, 2 black eyes and 12 stitches in my forehead. Good thing I wear bangs! :cool2: Better yet, I guess it's a good thing I'm so hard-headed! :lol8:

I am really sorry to hear that happen to you, having to go to the ER sucks. Got any gory pics?

I was looking out my window on to the street in front of my house on Sunday. There was a lot of debris blowing down the street. I remember thinking, "some of that could hurt if it hit you." Sorry to hear something actually hit someone.

Something like this would have me wondering what I did to deserve such "karma"

:ne_nau: Nothing I can think of.......I'm actually a nice person - kind to kids and animals. :2thumbs:

I think of it more along the lines of "Murphy's Law". In fact, in my
family, Murphy's Law is the norm, so we have a saying we use called "Beyond Murphy" which is what happened to me on Sunday. :haha:

Sorry about your dome gettin whacked!!!

Any legal loophole you can exploit to get some $$$? :haha:

I say post your gory pics, but with a disclaimer so that those with weak stomaches can know not to look.

C'mon man, my second favorite website is Ogrish.com - your 12 stitches won't even compare to the stuff on that site!!!

No good drugs though...... :ne_nau: To be honest, in these past
couple of days, I feel like I'm already stoned without even taking anything! I like that expression "getting my bell rung" :haha: Yep - that's what it felt like and my head is still ringing!

Seriously! Structures should be built to withstand wind loads -- especially mild wind loads -- and especially in public places!

That's the best advice I've gotten so far!! :2thumbs:

I have to laugh because I thought the same thing. What do I have to do next time I go out in a parking lot......wear a helmet??? I can guarantee that next time I go to the mall, I won't be parking anywhere close to a light pole. :haha:

I'm sitting here at my desk on hold and read your story. Wow. Sorry about this accident. I can say one thing, I have it on real good authority that light poles are not supposed to attack people. Cheap advice:  Take some photos of the scene and the offending light pole. Get your buddies to write some statements as soon as possible so as not to forget details. The more detail the better. Have they fixed the pole yet? Have someone check and snap some photos either way. (I'll stop now.) Hope you feel better soon.

Oh boy, this is where it gets a bit awkward. I do this kind of case and have done so for years. BUT, Savanna, and the rest of you, I was not fishing for a case with my post. I hesitated with my post but thought you needed to know that you need to preserve the evidence as best you can. If folks need lawyers, call several and get opinions and then choose one.

Thanks for the advice. My friend did go back yesterday and took a picture of the "attacker" pole. It has not been repaired. I was told that there was glass strewn for about 20' or more, and a nurse just happened to be coming out of the restaurant right after this happened, and helped out until paramedics arrived. I was knocked out cold and don't remember a thing until I woke up in the ER. Weird experience....despite what you've heard about Southern women, I've never even fainted before! :haha:

It's amazing how many people have called and the first thing (after asking if I'm doing ok) I am asked is "Have you contacted an attorney yet?" I didn't really consider it until after I received a call from the maintenance mgr from the Mall earlier this week. He didn't call to ask me if I was doing ok or anything of that nature. His call was to get information from me and in doing so , asked for my driver's license number. I asked him why did he need that - there was no vehicle involved in any of this, and he replied that they would be doing a background check on me. ME???? I ask why and he tells me that they will be checking me out to make sure I'm not some sort of insurance scam artist. :frustrated: Ok.....I've never filed a claim in my life - not even on my own personal policies for anything. He then proceeds to tell me that the parent company will be contacting to let me know what they will and will not be doing for me.

I don't think so...... :nono:

So - I contacted someone that a friend highly recommended. :ne_nau:

Yep - I survived. Guess I've got a really hard noggin. I feel ok for the most part.....these waves of dizziness come and go and my vision blurs and I get kinda sick. But it passes and I feel ok again. I was told I would be like this for about a week....I can't drive....and it's hard to read or watch tv when your head is spinning like a woodpecker, therefore I am bored bored bored!

This fairly recent insurance attitude is why I am employed. I don't do the advertising blitz thing. Most, if not all my clients are referrals and virtually everyone that comes into my office says the same thing as you are saying. Either the insurance company is treating them like dirty little liars who are trying do defraud the "good neighbor" or "good hands people" or some other such crap. Or, the insurance company is really nice at the beginning and then when bills are piling up they offer $1500 bucks when the bills are 5K. Welcome to my life :2gun: If insurance companies would just have a bit of humanity and quit treating hurt people like crap there would be less law suits and fewer lawyers doing this stuff and I could canyoneer more. Most normal people don't want to sue or be sued. But when they challenge your very integrity and who you are and infer that you are a fraud, that's when the hired guns get called in.

So - I contacted someone that a friend highly recommended. :ne_nau:

Good on ya. Again, I did not post fishing for clients - simply trying to be helpful. Please note that no where in my original post did I state I was a trial lawyer. I hope the best for you in your recovery and with the pending insurance crap that will be flung your way.

Hmmm.....well, I think I did have the vapors once, but it was during Mardi Gras and there was alcohol involved. :ne_nau:

:lol8:

I appreciate the advice. I wish I had known we had a lawyer present here! I don't know any attorneys out here at all and it's not easy to just pick one at random from the phone book. Should I need one in the future, I'll be glad to PM you and come in for a visit. :2thumbs: Maybe we should all network our line of work/business in a separate topic.

I don't know if this makes ya feel any better but on my last tour in Iraq, I destroyed a light pole. Shot it with a tank round. (I ment to hit the building behind it) I'll see if I can get some pictues. I might not have been "THE" pole but maybe a distant cousin.

First and foremost - Welcome Home!! :2thumbs:

A terrorist light pole......hmmmm....I didn't think of that one. :ne_nau:

Feel free to do the same thing to this one if you like using
whatever weapon you have at your disposal. I will give you the coordinates. :haha:
