If you could have dinner with anyone, living or deceased who would you choose?

I've been giving this some thought and I'm not sure who I would choose. I'm still thinking.

Hmmm....it would be really hard to narrow it down, but if I could pick 3:

1) Jesus (I'm not Christian, but how AMAZING would that be?) :hail2thechief:
2) Leonardo DiVinci - the original Renaissance Man! :cool2:
3) My father - he died when I was 10, and I'd like to know him as an adult

Interesting thread!

The wife, without kids. And I'd like to give her some kind of pill that would make her not worry about the kids nor talk about them for an hour.

Lets develop it and sell it to a Pharma for 10 billion dollars, we'd probably get that asking price... You're a genius Jamis.

Wow, what a great question.

I was watching a program last night on the History Channel about Abraham Lincoln. Psychologists have suspected for years that he suffered from depression. The program suggested that he actually suffered from biplolar disorder. But what was amazing was that in his highs he was able to work for three days straight yet was not abusive during those highs.

So, Abraham Lincoln is one. I would also like to eat dinner with Malcom X and Ghandi. With the latters' diets of no pork and no beef, I have no idea what I would serve. But I would like to spend the time with those three.

You know what Mr. Dahmer's favorite Chinese food was?

Dahmer: "Well, just push them aside and eat your veggies."

Charlemagne.

I notice most of the picks so far are people who were leaders during times of adversity. I'd love to hear what he would say about the world today. Probably something like "Quit whining! You have food, clothes, a home, and noone burning it down every other year!"

I'm not so sure I'd set my sights so lofty as everybody else here. I'm still trying to decide between Beavis and Butthead.

No, seriously, I'm in the same boat as canyonphile, except with my dad being #1, and Chuck Norris a close second. :haha:

I'd have to agree with a couple of other people here who named their Dad. Mine's been gone 20 yrs now and I would give anything to have just one more talk. I could definitely use the good advice I used to get! :2thumbs:

Hmmm....I wonder. Lesse....it seems that most of the chickadees here are climbers, hikers, cyclists, runners....pretty fit and pretty strong.

Iceaxe - you could get hurt :help: . It could be like a feeding frenzy and there might just be shredded bits of you left afterwards!

It's like picking your favorite song, it's almost impossible to choose, but here is my 'top 5':

John Wesley Powell

Meriwether Lewis

Ernest Shackleton

Joshua Slocum

Roald Amundsen

Dang.... now you did it..... how about George Mallory.

Mallory just missed my 'top 5', along with Robert Peary.

Those seven men were serious badasses, all of them.

I like reading about hardship, and survival, and of all I've read, the most incredible story of all is:

Endurance
Shackletons Incredible Voyage
by Alfred Lansing

If you like that sort of thing, read that book, you won't regret it.

I just want to know if Mallory made it......

Personally I think Mallory made the summit. I think Noel Odell was correct when he first reported Mallory was last seen above the 2nd Step. First impressions are usually correct. Odell didn't change his story until after he was badgered to do so and then he just said it was possible it was the 1st Step. Fun to know the entire story.

Shackleton was a stud..... he didn't lose a single man. That's leadership :2thumbs:

Me too, me too.

It seems like the evidence found with Mallorys body supports the theory that he DID summit, I'd sure like to think so...
