I just downloaded it today to look at the location of a potential employer. I was disappointed when the location I wanted to look at was all fuzzy. For some reason, the resolution wouldn't come clear no matter how far or close I zoomed. The location is the vicinity of the town of La Sal, Utah.

Is this a common problem? Is there any way to improve the resolution, or is this problem just something you have to live with?

It happens in certain areas. When you zoom out, you can see the rectangles of different photos.

I would say most areas are high resolution, but some aren't. Zion Ntl Park isn't, and that bugs me, but right next to it is Gooseberry Mesa, which has high resolution.

You can always tell if that's as good as it gets by looking at the "Streaming" info. If it's at 100%, then it's done clarifying the image. If not, it will soon get a little clearer.

It can also take a while if the bandwidth is slow/small. Google Earth is a huge bandwidth hog.

USA PhotoMaps has way better res. It is also 2 years old or so. And you can only get color maps in urban areas.

I like this program better because it is free to load in your GPS tracks. You can also switch between topo/color/and black and white maps.

Can it "tilt" like Google Earth can? That's the feature I really love.

Not only that, but with GE you don't have to click the directional arrow and get one frame at a time. It's all "fluid".

Do you have a link to USA PhotoMaps? I'd still like to check it out.

I have both programs but if I want to do any "serious" map work I use the USA PhotoMaps. The goggle map is just a toy to play with.

Are there any good options for outside the USA, for example, Mexico besides Google Earth? It has mediocre resolution for most of MX.

Because of the cheap Tequila that is how Mexico always looks to me in person. :roflol:

But seriously, folks. Most of the time, the resolution will be good in populated areas, but this isn't always the case. I would think they have stats of "most viewed areas", and have those as the top priority for resolution.
